From now on Masten has a new position with a new name, Rover.
He's a dog no doubt about it.
Don't you have a case of the munchies if you have been on particular substance.

So many things I would like to say in response to Tribunal Proceedings but have not the time nor the space.
What I will say is that WCE put there Western Australian Media Mates to work early.
Trotted out Darling and Priddis with the line we would never do that, no sign of Masten denying, would only lead to an adverse response. On Talk-Back well placed people slighting our man Suban.
Prepared for tribunal with some Dental expert who could say that the jaw could clamp shut involuntarily under some very precise conditions. Arm across face conservitively 5-6 times a game, 374 regular season games a year. Upwards of
2,244 incidents each year. Why this doesn't happen more often is beyond me. Once in last 15 years.
Then attack the integrity of the only person (Suban) who told the same story the whole episode.
What I can't get past though, if I was accused of a dog-act by anyone at anytime and was innocent, I would immediately challenge the person making the statement. If on the other hand I was guilty I would skulk away and stay quiet.
Much the same as Masten did on the day.

Post review of Silvagni's charge;
The MRP classified Silvangi's hit on Cripps as Intentional, High Impact, High Contact which goes to the tribunal.
That classification was made when all the talk had been that Cripps had a broken or fractured jaw, hence the High Impact.
An MRP classification of Intentional, Medium Impact, High Contact would have been 3 matches (down to 2 with Guilty plea).
So, it goes to the tribunal, new medical reports indicate no concussion, no structural damage and Cripps will most likely play next week (The Slime dressed it up to make it look much worse, but read between the lines and there's not much to it).
Somehow, Silvagni ends up with a suspension of 5 weeks (down to 4 weeks with a guilty plea).
Or put another way, 2 weeks worse off than a standard MRP classification of Intentional, Medium, High (or Careless, High, High).
As I have previously posted, Silvagni has been severely sentenced because of the media storm.
Had Silvagni broken Cripps' jaw and sidelined him for any period of time, then a sentence of 5 plus weeks would be understandable. But that didn't happen.
There was also lots of talk about the use of his elbow and how that just was not on. Well elbows are not like biting. Every year many players are cited by the MRP for errant elbows. Dawson got 3 weeks (down to 2) only recently for an elbow which caused a split nose.
Once again, Freo have copped a raw deal and once again we just accept it because the general public were set up to accept it.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

After they had Woosa on the Eaglephone I expect to have God, Jesus,Susanna Carr, Jeff Newman, Adrian Barich, Fat Cat and Masten's mum ( pleading" Hes not a biter He's just a very naughty Boy!" ) as character witnesses.

Only Freo elbows seem to be worth weeks, the eagles backed off on cripps' injury because the were worried that they would come under investigation for sending a concussed player back on the field. They were satisfied with the crucifixion that CH 7 and their suckhole mates at the worst had done, so no need to press on with an adverse medical report. If I was playing for the Bulldogs, I would be testing cripps mental and physical state next week. They should do it for Scos.

A fair result would have been 1 to 2 weeks, but having been soft in previous weeks, after being accused by Freo of being too harsh on Zac Dawson, the tribunal had to show some balls. They did, but it must have been a cold night in Melbourne because they were very quick to get them back in their pockets when the next case came up ( FYI masten v Suban biting charge against masten if you havd forgotten).

The only surprising thing for Freo fans about the tribunal decisions on Tuesday night was that Suban wasn't charged for head high contact on masten, and bringing the game into disrepute by uttering an audible obscenity

The trib is corrupt, but virtually every club prepares for it 1000 times better than Freo do. Have they decided it's such a corrupt chocolate wheel, that they simply can't be bothered? I can't think of any other sane reason.

The Silvagni episode is a joke. They just turned up rolled over and said don't hurt us too much. So they did. It's a 2 week offense, doubled.

How they could walk out there with Masten looking like the victim is preposterous, yet they let WC pull it off.

It was a stupid thing to do and deserved the four weeks it got. Forget the funked up match review panel process.

Two weeks, on the other hand, for sinking your teeth into someone's arm. Accompanied by colleagues on unsocial media slinging off about landmark dates (ignoring the Crowley/Harvey palaver last year), codes, non-existent mouthguards, is just plain bizarro.

Freo had nothing to do with the Masten case Drubbing. The AFL prosecutor presents the evidence. If Masten came out of it looking like the victim (which I'm not sure he did), that had nothing to do with Freo.

When compared with other tribunal findings this year, the only one that stacks up against it is Dawson's 3 weeks, and in both case the players they offended against were able to play out the game. Cooney last week concussed an opponent causing him to miss the rest of that game, and the next one ( at least) as well. He got ONE week.

Fyfe has come out and said what we all knew, Mitchell's dog like kneeing of him has cost him game time and limits him still. Mitchell could well win the Brownlow this year, joining Watson Judd and Cousins as players who do not deserve to be considered in the same league as the likes of Skilton, Kieth Grieg, Mcleod, and other WORTHY winners of the medal.

I think Freo have read the way the cards are stacked against them and just look to get in and out, and get on with what they can control.

The difference between the two players in their reaction to t heir tribunal verdict encapsulated for me the difference between the two clubs. The Eagles' Masten muttered that he disagreed with the verdict. The Dockers' Silvagni accepted the penalty, apologised and stated his values - all class!

Nathan Buckley says what many people must be thinking:
Buckley said once Masten was found guilty of [the] offence, he [ie Buckley] would have expected the sanction handed down to be bigger than two weeks.
"I didn't sit in the Tribunal, but if you're guilty of biting you'd expect the penalty would be a little greater than that," Buckley said.
"Without all the evidence, the immediate reaction would be that it's either you're absolved or there's a greater penalty."

Link: Buckley

There is absolutely no doubt about the editorial position of 'The West' and Channel 7. Its time for Freo to come out and savage people like Schofield, and even the West Coast defence, and the inadequacy of the penalty. Further, they should highlight how inappropriate it was for Jack Darling to make public comment about the case before it was heard at the tribunal. A classic case of the court of public opinion running counter to proper fairness and justice.
Buckley is absolutely right and Fremantle or the AFL should appeal the leniency of the two week sanction. As for the sanctimonious Eagles supporters who are trying to put the blame on Suban and exonerate Masten, they must have very sad lives.

Already said my bit re the SCOS case..

the Mastencator was surprising. As Buckley puts it perfectly really... it's got to be worth more than two weeks.

It was a dog act.

Sorry, I'll see myself out.

How can there be a difference of 8 weeks for a biting charge last year and a biting charge this year? Sure one was VFL and one ACorruptFL, but a bite is a bite and it should not make any difference where a player is bitten.
Suban can just count himself lucky that masten didn't have time for his normal duck the head routine before he went the chomp or he could have suffered greater damage.

The football industry including its top dog is up in arms about the leniency of the penalty.

Meanwhile on planet Perth the West Coast throng including the media are making Suban the issue and the breach of some code. And they are seething because of the injustice.
