I know he coached West Coast, and hasn't had any role with the Dockers, but I wouldn't be against it being called the John Todd Medal.

Not only is he a legend of the WA Football Hall of Fame, but he also played for South Fremantle and coached East Fremantle.

He's coached flags at Easts, Souths and Swan Districts and played for WA on 13 occassions, winning All-Australian honours in 1961.

But that probably won't be a popular choice to due his West Coast links.

Once Pav retires, surely it just becomes the Glendinning-Pavlich Medal, named after two greats of their respective clubs in their foundation years.

The thing about Glendinning is that he has set such a low bar, that almost anyone would be better. John Todd would be a much better choice.

To Drubbing's point, I'd even prefer the Carlton Mid Medal, on the condition that the Medal is presented by Giant Beer Can. That magnificent bastard has contributed more to Freo than Glendinning has.

I think GBC should get to vote as well.

Well, if Channel 7 mascot Basil Zemplas gets a vote, The Carlton Mid mascot should as well.

The "Eagle Anchor Medal" was not popular so the went with the "Ross Glendinning Medal". (or at least that is what I thought the story was)

I don't think there should even be a medal. It's Freo's civic duty to beat the slime. Having a medal attached just cheapens the whole affair.

Yeah, make it the John Todd Medal and have Big Ron Boucher hand it over to the winner.

Big Ron reminds me of one of those old punch drunk boxers. I could just see him handing over the medal, hearing a bell and start going the biff. Hope Karl Langdon would be nearby.

Big Ron put his heart and soul into setting our club up, I remember him 20 years ago absolutely publicly smacking the AFL for the talent pool they allocated us - half the WAFL teams I think it was. No one else spoke up!

The whole medal thing also leaves me cold - having Glendinning over-ride decisions (i.e. Sampi), and pre-determine who to give it to (i.e. Dudd), has taken away any credibility to the thing. In John Todd's defence, I see him hobbling into every one of our home games at Subi (I usually call out a hello) - but he is recognised (appropriately) for his WAFL legacy (Souths/Old Easts/Black Ducks) and his time at the Slimers. Great man, but it's as shonky as his hips to think that he's synonymous with us.

Just do away with the thing and wheel out a big can of beer (like Morgan suggests) - the other guys can weep about it if they want.

John Todd would get up there, ramble on about what's wrong with the game and how the derby is killing WA football, then wander off for his free dinner.

Thats still a better result than having a low rent buffoon like Klangdon dressed in a slimer shirt handing over the Roscoe.

Give it Polly Farmer to do...or John Todd...or ditch it like Polly says.

I enjoy watching Karl have to hand over the medal to a Fremantle player every year. That and watching Adrian Barrich read the Channel 7 sport after a Derby are two of the match highlights.
