So DBtS, what you're saying is that we shouldn't 'flirt with form' for the Derby, but it's ok to rest players for the subsequent 3 weeks? Is that more a 'long sideways glance at form?'

Geelong and Hawthorn rested players in their premiership years and still won. They also happened to have the best players.

Fair dinkum. In the words of Obama and Bob the Builder "Yes we can!".

Remember 2013 as well as I was there crying purple tears at the end. They no longer have buddy, Lake is older, grumpier and senile, Frawley is injured half the time and only goes ok when they're under no pressure and they have that sense of arrogance without the hunger of a gf loss they had in 2013.

On the other hand, we have Neale no longer the sub and a genuine superstar, Fyfe is even angrier and can go mental when he already has the brownlow (unless the AFL ban him after he gets rubbed out in the GF), Sandi is more angry and hungry then ever, Ibbo is in our 22 and in AA form, AA Luke is in good shape (touch wood), Griffin is possibly our answer forward, we have a more attacking mind set and we also have more hunger then ever.

Mark my words, if we make the grand final against the hawks, we'll win it.

Not at al Morgan, by all means rest those that absolutely need a rest at any point, eg I really don't think one of Pav, Mundy or McPharlin will play this week. But we don't go playing a completely unbalanced team for one week with the misguided assumption that we can choose the games we can win or lose.
I made the point that other teams have done it recently to go on and win the premiership,it is probably one of the prerequisites. Once top spot assured, and games travelling would provide the best chance to allow 1 to 2 players each week to rest and get other players ready should they be needed, see what Ross thinks his best team is. Touch wood injuries make all of this invalid anyway.
We can achieve resting player over that 3 week period without messing too much with our team balance, and have done so over the season. Top spot allows us to write our own story as Ross would say.

Yeah, but if we win the first final the boys get to rest before the prelim while the lesser teams scrap it out.
Flirting with form and an early rest, or carry it through to week one of the finals, blitz it and bring it home.

I'd rather be taking a compassionate approach and sending the B team to South Oz to play Port Adelaide in the last round. That unfortunate bunch of misfits were touted as as premiers this year and they've been knocked off by Carlton. They need a little consolation and so do their supporters who don't have a lot of mental resource on call to cope with the emotional upheaval.

It's the least we can do.
