In a crazy kind of way, I would actually prefer to play the WeePoos at the MCG on the grand final day itself. Yes, playing them here would be a massive advantage to us, but so will the expectations and pressure to beat them, whereas we will go in as rank underdogs if we were to meet them at the 'G, which IMHO will make it all the more enjoyable when we take the choccies...as we have seen in some of our first halves, clearly our best is enough to beat anyone, it's just a matter of bringing it on the day...

Sorry Dockerknockers but you're wrong. We only need to win 2 of the last 4 to finish top 2, In fact to finish top. It doesn't matter which 2. If we win the derby then we can lose the other 3 and still finish top 2.

Bringing Richmond into it is something people don't think of in talking of Hawks being a lay down misere to get to the GF by finishing top 2 and playing at the MCG from the get go. Should the Hawks come up against the Tiggies at home the smart money should be placed on the unhealthier looking wees and poos.

The way I see it, the best plan is the one that no one has proposed yet.

It'll be tough to pull off, and a bit risky as it relies on a few results falling out way but I reckon, after we win the derby, we throw everything we have at losing the last 3 games. If other results play in our favour, Hawthorn end up minor premiers, 2nd and 3rd get filled by any two out of WC, Bulldogs and Sydney, and we finish 4th, forcing us to travel to Melbourne to meet Hawthorn in the QF, where we smash 'em like we did Geelong twice previously in finals campaigns, and then take a week off while the footy world walks around, at first dazed and confused, and then scared senseless at the realisation that Freo are unbeatable, and anyone else who shows up to the GF is just there to make up the numbers.

Having had another think about this, I find the following scenario fascinating.
We aim to finish second. We play the Hawks in the first final at Domain and beat them. We have a week off, they then play the Tigers. Meanwhile WC have beaten the Swans and have a week off. The winners of the Hawks/Tigers game come to the Domain to play WC. Meantime we win our second final and go to the granny to play the Hawks after their month of travel.

On the other hand I think it is more likely that we will win our next seven games.

Getting to a GF and playing against any team that's had to travel West twice beforehand, it's a given Freo would walk away with it. It's what Freo have to do all year to get there, and Vic teams simply aren't up to that sort of challenge during finals. Not even Hawthorn.

That's why you need a home final and time off.
