There's a lot of talk that our best chance to win the flag is to play Hawthorn @ Subiaco Oval in the Prelim 'cos if we play them in the GF they'll flog us.

Is this true?

Are they really that much better than us, especially @ the MCG?

Do we have the personnel, the game plan and the will to win to beat Hawthorn @ the MCG in the Grand Final?

Yes, we can (and damned well should have in 2013, on the back of Fyfe's boot and a missing couple of players that will remain unnamed in this post). They're a no better team than they were then.

I think that pretty much explains it but for clarification, last time we faced them in a GF, at the MCG coincidentally, we kicked ourselves out of the contest.

Yes Freo can beat Hawthorn in a GF ...
But you have to get to the Grand Final first ...
and the best way to get there is with a Top 2 Home and Away finish ...
and to get to Top 2 Freo need to win this derby, if not they may need to win 2 of the last 3 games.
That is why any talk of resting players this week is ridiculous and premature.

one of the other prerequisites to beating the Hawks in a GF is the Hawks making it to the GF as well. No guarantees there, either.

Fremantle's record at the MCG in 2015;
2 Games, 2 wins.

Fremantle beat Richmond at the MCG in Round 17. Richmond then beat Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 18.

Richmond have beaten Hawthorn 3 times out of the last 4 matches between the 2 clubs.

They seem to have something over the Hawks.

Freo have won (I think) twice out of the last 10 matches...both @ Subiaco Oval.

But hey, I'll be the GF day and if we're playing Hawthorn it'll be bloody exciting but after playing with that ladder predictor I had Fremantle playing Richmond in the GF. How good would that be?!

There is a couple of things I do not understand.
Why are people saying that if we beat them at Domain then we will win the premiership?
I agree it would be nice to have them travel to play someone (probably WC) at Domain during the finals, rather than them having two prelim games at the MCG.

If we finish top which I suspect we will then we are in charge of our own destiny. We will probably meet them in the GF at the MCG.
Do not forget that the GF in 2013 we had 6 set shots at goal in the first half and kicked 3 points. Translate that into 3 goals and one point and we would have won.
The way we are running into form now I think augers well for September. I think we will "do" them in the Grany.

In a game they had to win an undermanned West Coast stuck with them for 90% of the game.

Eagles back line matched it with the vaunted Hawks Fwds.

Someone used a Bart Cummings reference to talk about our prep this year. Wonderful analogy.

The 'if' for me is the fitness of the blokes who spend all their time in defence. If Elvis, Johno, Ibbo and Spurr are all fit through final series we win the flag. Still maintain apart from kicking ourselves out of it in 2013 if Ibbo had played we would have won. He would have got first crack at Gunston and no way he'd have given him the space to kick 4.

Agree with you about Ibbo, 391, and that's why we need MJ back To allow Ibbo to play the role he is so good at, taking the forward that "plays tall for his height".

We can beat the Hawks anytime in Sep/Oct. We'll probably have to if we are to win the GF. But to be fair, they are the team that I am most nervous about playing in Sep/Oct.

Thats what happens when you win 2 grannies on the trot and are the best of the other 17 clubs.

Yep, I may be pretty nervous about playing them. But I really really really want to see Mitchell and his girls cry this time round
