I guess the point i was trying to make to TROLLS post was that while it is fun to label all slime supporters as racist/village idiots it could have just as easily been Freo or any other club's supporters that has played sydney recently under fire.

Yes it would only take a small minority,just like i have heard at all sydney games i have viewed these past weeks yet it isn't until a game is played in WA that the media get into a uproar and yes i know it may have been more pronounced during the eagles game but we all know how much they enjoy a boo anyway. The football media is to gutless to raise the issue against a vic club so they wait til its on the other side of the country.Seems whenever the media have a issue with booing it involves the WA clubs playing at subi.

DazzElle mate, I don't agree.
Players who make stupid gestures to mates in the nick get a dressing down but not for being proud of who they are and I stand by my comment that if anyone is offended they are thin skinned and precious.
I also disagree that Goodes would have had the same reception from the Freo fans. I've been to a lot of games and I have never yet been ashamed to wear purple.

From reading a few of the recent posts and articles in the west, is there a danger Freo are going to be lumped in with the west coast racists just because we share the same state? We have been the antithesis to West Coast on this issue from our beginnings as was noted in Gerard's recent interview.

A strong statement from our club needs to be made against racism AND needs to be continued to be followed up in actions from the club and supporters. I have never seen or heard racism from any of our fans but we all need to be vigilant against it and take a stand if we do hear it.

As for this WA racist thing. Any chance that we can succeed from west coast? Have we located this place yet? Perhaps the delisting of west coast is the appropriate response here.

I Was arguing with a person at work, who I actually like, but they were trying to argue that telling Adam Goodes to 'get back to the zoo', wasn't necessarily racist because, and I quote 'there are white animals in the zoo too'

That is the extent of the problem in Society, not just footy.

For the record, I put him firmly in his place. But honest to god, I despair of people on an all too frequent basis

I haven't watched an Eagles game in a very long time. It is not something I enjoy full stop. I haven't seen or heard anything about this issue until reading this thread due to having two very small children and no longer having "a life", and if I did have one i no longer remember it.
Irrespective, as a generalisation, the average Toilet mouth is exactly that and shaped only to pronounce the slight variations between "boo" and "ball" with alarming mass regularity.
There are many very stupid people who support all clubs,particularly West Coast, and I suspect increasingly ours. I would hope like hell that all our fans are more intelligent, but past experience suggests otherwise.
However, booing just isn't a Freo thing.
Years ago Freo could have made a big deal about our links to indigenous football and our recruitment of indigenous boys - but we didn't. Because it wasn't necessary. It was a non-issue. Robert Walls would not have picked up on that.
Malcolm X said it best: "the bullet or the ballot". Adam Goodes has realised that sometimes being quiet and relying on the inherent goodness of the common man doesn't cut it.
And I have to say, this thread, thankfully the majority of it by far, has been life affirming in its sense of respect, humanity and intelligence. Thank you also for all the links that I would otherwise not have known about.

It would certainly be a different reaction at a Freo crowd. I don't think you could be a Freo supporter and even a closet racist, indigenous blokes have done too much for this club to be so bigoted. Personally it was one of the reasons I fell in love with the club back in 1995 and most of my favourite players have been indigenous from Kickett to Koops to Roger.

It would be a very different story at a Freo crowd and I really hope we don't get tarnished with the same brush as the OOFTITS.

Thank God for Dockerland. I have been tearing my hair out over the stupidity and ignorance being displayed in the media about Adam Goodes. Some people are agreeing with Sam Newman's comments. Sam Newman! To read the comments here - both for and against, are like a breath of fresh air. Intelligent debate. I realise Adam must be feeling overwhelmed by what has been going on but it's a positive thing as it has raised awareness of the issue of racism and, hopefully, some people may become more enlightened about our history and the issues that Aboriginal Australians face. I don't believe that Freo fans would boo Adam. Why would we? Did he give Fyfe a cork to the thigh? No. Did he lie about being pinched 300 times? No. Did he elbow Pav in the face? No. Did he participate in drug taking - either privately or with his club? No. We have no reason to boo him and we wouldn't have booed him. I only hope that he doesn't end his career now. He is a champion of the game. He deserves better than this.

I have been so frustrated by some people's attitudes - and I have had some heated discussions with people who have become personally abusive to me - that I have thought perhaps it would be easier to just step out of the argument and not say anything. Make no comment. I realised that I have the privilege to make the decision to become involved or not to become involved. I am a Wadjela. I can decide. But Aboriginal Australians have no option. They are part of the issue whether they like it or not.

I’m with ya purple mum. You can’t have proper debate on social media, too many idiots out there. Dockerland raises the bar and can help you deal with your frustrations in an intelligent way. I still don’t understand how people don’t get it. I think a lot of people who have voiced their opinions on the matter didn’t even watch this particular game.

The booing was relentless, consistent and very west coast. It was not a minority as they have tried to state, it was the whole bloody stadium. I was disgusted and embarressed while watching and very happy to see Jetta do his war dance. I knew straight away why he did it, and he was the one who has started this debate. I was astounded that it was never mentioned at all during the game by the commentators who had a chance to really denounce it then and there on air but chose to ignore it completely. Maybe they were under instructions not to throw fuel on the fire?



So many stupid arguments too. Alan Jones said he deserves it for humiliating a 13 year old girl. Excuse me? So she shouts out an abusive, derogatory comment and she is the victim? Goodes pointed her out like he should have. How was he to know she was 13? It was also interesting to note that even though it was Jetta who raised the issue with his dance, people are telling Goodes to pull his head in and change his behaviour. He has done nothing in the past few weeks but play footy but this is all now his fault.

I think should he play again, even with all the idiots on social media saying he deserves it, the crowds will be more respectful. You will have pockets of idiots trying to get the booing started but I believe the majority are fair minded and will drown them out.

Dr Sleep the club ( as in the supporters ) makes a statement every week on issues like this, with the type of behaviour that has been commented on by eastern states fans, opposition players and coaches, the general public in Melbourne during grand final week 2013, and on many forums like this one. The club has no need to make any other statement as the statement is made every week by supporters and members, just like eagles fans and fans from some other clubs make their own statements every week

Secondly the idiocy of trying to justify it.

Surely the correct thing to do once Goodes came out and indicated it's racist, would be to simply say "Look, don't agree, but we won't do it anymore".

Instead we have a 40,000+ mob of predominately white members telling Goodes & Jetta what's racist ... as if they would ever know ...

How long ago was it that all of Australia was confused about the Red Faces / Harry Connick Jnr / Black Face reaction? Sometimes Joe Public doesn't see it, but once it's pointed out, it really should be respected and stopped.

Good friend of mine is a Note holder at WCE and was at the game.
He and everyone around him were absolutely disgusted and embarrassed by the treatment Goodes got.
So much so he and many others took the 4th quarter eagles special train but for a different reason.
So it was just a small minority , idiots are everywhere.
We have our idiots too but I really hope we would have treated Goodes differently as others have suggested.
