OK, now I'm watching the Weagles set up their zone from opposition kick ins. It's been highlighted how well they structure up and guard space. Players look like they are free, but they guard space. Surely one tactic to beat this zone would be the old flood to one side with numbers, right? I could see this tactic working - the kicker signals which side he'll kick to and then wait for all the numbers to flood that side. At least the team would have the numbers to have a better chance of getting the ball and retaining possession. Once you do win the ball, you spread from the cluster, kicking the ball forward. IMO, if you don't flood to one side, you're playing into the hands of a disciplined structure.
Keep a couple of forwards in the central area if the Weagles win the ball and kick it back to the middle.
Zones can be beaten, but not the way Sydney and other sides are doing it.
