I typed up notes while watching the game yesterday, with a critical eye to marking down each turnover, error, dropped mark etc, stupid free kicks given way as well as some umpiring errors etc, and very occassionaly I was moved to add something positive about some brilliant piece of play even though that wasn't the purpose of the exercise.

Something that I've never done before, and probably won't do again, and it did get a bit indecipherable in the tense last quarter when I couldn't glance down at the screen and check out my spelling.(eg "SAndlidlands ig makr from mcphalin but ball rebounded, lost possession reiwold marks = goal")

Just wanted to get a bit of a perspective on how things pan out during a game because so much happens, and details are easy to forget. How about that non free kick to Fyfe for in the back that wasn't paid one metre out between the goal and point posts late in the 3rd quarter!!!!

Anyway, without suggesting my notes are definitive as far as I can see the only two players that escaped my wrathful eye are Mundy and Neale. There were a bunch of others mentioned only once, but everyone else was there...right up to the unfortunate fellow up the top of the clanger charts this week.

It does explain a lot about how people see things during a game, and what sticks in their mind when get on Dockerland to vent about a certain player, even if at times they can exaggerate.

I would just love for Dan to lower his eyes and hit up a player more often. I can recall three occasions when he just took a ping and missed whilst burning team mates. Does it every game. Great when he is on but it's not that often. Maybe he has a license to do it, I don't know.

There was a lot of talk earlier in the season about working to get Hill and D Pearce the ball on the outside. It got me thinking: in Pearce's case, has a team ever worked so hard to get the ball to a guy who is that inconsistent at kicking the ball?

Never has a footballer continued to have a reputation as a great kick when he continues to butcher around 50% of all his kicks. This is another example of where better coaching could get better results out of Pearce. Can you imagine Hawk players blazing off one step 55m out on acute angles without first looking inboard to the corridor to a free forward. He needs to recognise his limitations and limit his kicks to about 35m. He believes his own publicity about how good a kick his is and he just isn't. Malthouse got Medhurst at Collingwood to stop prop and deliver inboard to devastating effect after we couldn't get reliable results out of him. Roly developed Milne at the Saints into the same sort of player. Its time to do the same thing with Pearce. Next stupid pot shot of his and I don't care if it goes through for a goal or not, he should be dragged.

Daniel Pearce is a terrible kick of the ball. No team man's him up at all . They simply let him play and if he gets it , more times than not he butchers it badly. At the beginning of the year he appeared to have significantly improved , but has got progressively worse. He has to go and give a young guy a go - ie an Ed Langdon or Lachie weller.

If you recall it was D Pearce who in the grand Final kicked across the goals into the arms of a surprised hawthorn player that got them on the board!!!

Here's a trend line for his disposal efficiency for the year. Usually very good with the occasional shocker.

Exceed, you do know that Danyl is No 6 right?

You seem to be talking about someone different from the bloke I've been watching all year.

Funny hey... I don't watch a lot of footy these days but I do try and settle in when I can, and I've seen Danyle Pearce do some awesome work with the ball.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I put it down to poor coaching and terrible game plan.

You put Pearce D in front of goals, with a set shot and no pressure and you know its going sideways. Don't you! Admit you pikers!

Stick him in a pocket, with barely daylight between the posts and 3 opposition thugs bearing down on him with mere microseconds to react and its it a six pointer every time. Roly should stick him deep in a forward pocket and have Ballantyne chasing him whenever the ball goes forward of the wing.

10 goal quarters for the taking

Get it done, boss!

So is it fair to say he chokes under presure? Rnd 10 behind all day against the Tigres, he has a shocker, Rnd 14 behind all day against Hawks...shocker, Rnd 17 behind all day, again against the tigres.... shocker.

Or maybe that just illustrates he is more important to our success than you or I thought (before Shane put some facts into the debate!)

Years ago Freo played El Tigre at Subi, back in the days when Richo ran around marking the thing all day at will.... Freo found themselves in the giddy position of being in front with minutes on the clock and in the total confusion that comes with unknown territory like that, Shane Parker had a kick in that went straight down the throat of some unknown Tiger.

He goaled.

We lost.

Everyone understood it wasn't Shane Parker's fault because we should never have got to a point of relying on one kick. That is still the case and some of you myopic pickers of nits would do well to educate yourselves by watching more of the game than one players mistakes. There's 18 of them out there trying to accomplish stuff that affects their team mates individual games, not just please some anonymous couch jockey mouthing off from the safety of the deep pile and the heater.
