Good to see Clancee back, but in Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Suban, Taberner, De Boer and Crozier we have six players who have had virtually no impact on the game in a couple of months - Therein lies our problem, which may well be exploited again by Richmond.

Changes from Round 10 (As far as I can work out)

Out Richmond
Morris C.Ellis Vickery Menadue Edwards

In Richmond
Hampson Lennon Lambert Lloyd Newman

Out Fremantle
Ballantyne Johnson Clarke Duffield

In Fremantle

Griffin A.Pearce Spurr Deboer

I'd forgotten Spurr missed last encounter because of injury. Vickery and Edwards played good games and Morris, even though I think he's a total dud, ran Sutcliffe around in circles in the first half and was involved in 3 of their goals.

ZeD didn't take long to regain 'Coach's pet' status.
ZaC back in - very strange. Peel must have worked miracles.

We didn't really have MJ in the last clash with Richmond, he got injured pretty early. I give us a chance as long as we don't just let them chip it straight down the middle of the ground while we stand around protecting the wings.

Have to believe Zac D will start.

Last time Riewoldt, Vickery and Griffiths bagged 7 goals between them.
This time they have Riewoldt, Hampson and Griffiths. The latter two are 200+ cms.

Luke will take Riewoldt, leaving A. Pearce and Ibbo to man Hampson and Griffiths - can't see that happening.

Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Suban, Taberner, De Boer and Crozier are the future of this club. 3 of the 6 have played in a GF. Other then recruits, Weller, Langdon and Blakely, how could any other player have more impact on the big stage. Already Duffield, Clarke and Mzungu are on the outer, because of not having impact on games.

Re: Richmonds tall forwards.

Even though I thought their three talls would be a bit of a concern going into the game last time, they baggged their goals in Round 10 more as a result of uncontested marks in the forward 50, except maybe early on they caused some confusion by dragging out our defenders, particulary McPharlin.

One or two of Vickery, Griffiths and Reiwoldt would come up into the midfield, at times contesting the ruck stoppages around the ground alongside Maric (where Richmond were also aided with some favourable, if unfathomable, ruck infringement free kicks), and caused some confusion in the switch over that defenders do, and I think maybe just having the taller players as a potential mismatch, would have made the decision of when a defender should drop off or push up a little uncertain, and we got pulled apart a bit.

Plus the skillful way Richmond moved the ball into the forward line, taking care in the midfield to hit a short target rather than being rushed into bombing it in quick, helped those forwards keep their space, and made it too difficult for our defenders to adjust. Big vs small contests wasn't the issue, but it may have played into the defenders minds.

After we lost Johnson, which was about 6 of their goals in, and we were one tall short, and a bit more inexperienced than usual with Spurr out, we kind of broke even.

We did find other ways to gift them quite a few goals through direct turnovers including an intercept kick in. Some defensive mistakes with Taberner and Clarke spending some time back, and Sandilands either not holding or not being paid marks.

For the most part their taller players didn't dominate, but were on the end of clean possession through rebound. I think Ibbo took Reiwoldt for a fair bit of the 2nd half and did ok.

Something leftfield would be to play Zac D on tall forward ruckman and have him follow him into the ruck, but I'm not sure if the fist can be turned into a palm.

If the last game Rich v Freo was poker in Q1 every Richmond hand was pocket aces and despite fact we scrapped it out we never hit anything on the flop, turn or river for the rest of the match.

No way in the world that happens again, remember how completely sh!t we were well at full time we were two scoring shots behind (after their awesome accuracy) and we won inside 50s, contested possessions, clearances.

I honestly don't think they have another game that good in them.

I will also be a little miffed if our boys aren't white hot when the first bounce happens Saturday.

Ross would have told them that quite simply when you come to the G you win. Don't worry about tomorrow because tomorrow may never come. Stay in the moment and WIN because this is where September is played. So it's time to repeat our last quarter's effort at the G we played earlier this year but do it 4 times over.

I agree with everything you said there Chewy.

However, we have a coach who simply doesn't gamble. If he perceives a mismatch in numbers he will counter that by playing an additional tall. Especially considering how inexperienced young AP actually is.

It also makes no sense to fly Dawson across the country one week removed from a long injury layoff to simply sit in the grandstand. Peel play their game on Sunday and I'm certain the three emergencies from Freo's game will all play in that game.

The only other reason for taking Dawson would be to cover for McPharlin in case he's injured but there's no indication of that.

Barring a very wet ground, I'd be stunned if Dawson doesn't start.
