The Hawks have to maintain that form for another couple of months, and that is not easy. Freo were playing with that pizzazz earlier in the season and were at that stage rated unbeatable. Another interesting stat from tonight : Free kicks 3rd quarter Carlton 7 Freo 1.

What you have to keep in mind about Hawthorn is that they buggered up their first half of the season and they've had to ramp up their effort to fight their way into the top 4.

Sydney aren't rubbish, they're just comfortable.

Agreed Shane I think there is an element of the better teams playing the season out for September. Hawks are Impressive at the moment and have the runs on the board. Hope the Eagles are this years Port.

Hawthorn are playing brilliant footy, pantsing 2 top 4 teams in consecutive weeks is pretty impressive. Can they sustain it for 10 or so more weeks? Let's hope not. My concern is the physcological damage it may have done to the players. When a team that beats you in a gf then smashes you senseless you can't have much confidence and vice versa. I know it's harsh, but I reckon the best chance of hawthorn losing this years flag is for them to travel a bit which means freo and west coast need to finish top 2.

Yep Clinical, in all probability, this year's premiership will be partly decided during the home and away season. That is, Top 2 is critical this year.
The thing that concerned me most from the Hawks v Freo game was during Clarko's post match media comments when he said "... it was pleasing that we won this game in a sense only because if we allow Fremantle to get the 4 points then that would have put a far gap between us and them, perhaps even 3 or 4 games I think ...".
I found that unusual. Almost like Clarko has a goal to get on top of Freo on the ladder more so than a goal to finish Top 4. The A VFL and Hawthorn know that it will be much harder for any non-interstate team to get to the Grand Final if both 1 and 2 are WA teams.
Hence the Free Kick tally in the Collingwood v The Slime match on Saturday 24-8.
I do not expect any favours from the men in green in the next month or so.

Yep, DK, it is unusual for the Slime to cop such a pasting at the hands of the umps. I note that we, home town umpiring and all, still managed to get on the wrong end of the frees against Carlton.
