About time the club has come out and said something, needed to go further, the body of evidence is there. Ross works hard to create We are a no excuse football club. But over the last 2 years how we are being umpired is influencing our games against better teams.

Normally I would say this was bad timing by Roly, as it seems to me we'd be better saving our whinges for before games we might lose. But watching Fyfe on the weekend, it seemed his response to being held was to check the umpires whistles were working by trying to give away a free kick at every opportunity.

The umpires will probably be instructed to take note of Ross's concerns and further attention will be paid to player contact in this weekends game.

That is, Marc Murphy will get 10 free kicks instead of the 7 he got last time we played each other.

I had a laugh watching one of those footy review shows on Monday night when they showed some vision of how Hawthorn targeted Fyfe at the stoppages.

Two Hawthorn players fell on his back in one, in another Hodge tackled Fyfe after he handballed (ie without being in possession) and threw him to the ground. Then in the next example, Breust was brushed off in a tackle that went about 180 degrees but when the umpire pinged Fyfe for holding the ball, just as he disposed of the ball cleanly, Bruest was flailing away at the hem of Fyfe's shorts with this fingertips...and the other was the mark paid in front of the sticks to Hodge vs Fyfe when he clearly interfered in the contest before the ball arrived.

Yes Chewy, the commentators were raving about Hodges superior bodywork and the way he worked Fyfe under the ball. At the time I remember thinking that there was no way the ball was anywhere near the 15mt proximity needed for such a shove to be legal. But don't let the laws of the game get in the way of looking after the golden boys of the comp ay Den Den.
