TOPIC: Shaking Hands

Why did Fyfe go out of his way to shake Luke Hodges hand before the start of the game?
As far as I recall, I dont remember him ever doing it to anyone else before...
Hodge and Mitchell alike are lauded for their leadership and sportsmanship when we all know they are nothing more than cheap snipers taht will do anything to gain an advantage.
It actually bothered me - I feel like it was a form of surrender before the ball was bounced.
Please dont do it again Fyfey

Spot on Demo1. Hodge knew that after that, he was in control. I've done that in the past, and psychologically, I was beaten before the game even started. And as far as Hodge and Mitchell are concerned, they're modern day thugs on the field, no question.

You're idiots.

If shaking someone's hand before the game can effect the way you play football then you'd be the mentally softest person in the history of sport.

It was the deliberate, premeditated knee to the thigh that gave them the edge over Fyfe.

If Hodge thinks he has it over Fyfe, it's probably because he has three premiership medals, and two Norm Smiths, not because he shook hands.

Why would you want to pay him any respect before the game?? Do the opposite and throttle him.
Lets face it - this team is our nemesis. We should hate them with a passion and loath them.
It didnt stop the Hawks trying to bash him at every contest.
I just think it is unneccesary. Wait until after the game and see how friendly they are when we beat them.
David Neitz once refused to shake Nick Maxwells hand before a milestone game and Im surprised Hodge didnt do the same.

He does it before most games with one of the opposition midfielders.

I suspect Hodge knew he had the better of Fyfe at the first bounce when the ball was still in the air and Hodge ran straight at Fyfe, put his arms around Fyfe's waste, then when Sandi tapped the ball, Hodge grabbed and held Fyfe's arm.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

I suspect those that are mentally tough are the ones that should have shirt fronted opponents much like the Carr brothers that used to play for Freo. These days a handshake is considered a sporting gesture. Plenty of time to do it after the game. As they say failure is feedback and I stopped shaking hands after the U12s GF.

I think you probably took the wrong message out of that Grand Final.

You're looking at it all wrong. Hodge had the better of the umpires.

A handshake is, among other overwrought and symbolic irrelevancies, your chance to exert some mano e mano dominance. You look the weasel in the eye and demand his limp, damp offering, you grab that foul thing and you give it a squeeze, not a big bone crushing grind that shrieks of overcompensation and a salvaged collection of mum's old dresses in your closet, but a measured squeeze, a firm no nonsense hand that says very clearly 'there's plenty more where this came from, fop' before you casually go about the business of not caring too much for your mealy mouthed and vanquished would be foe.

Anyone who refuses the opportunity has obvious issues. Issues that are no business of mine.

Nah. I called that giving you're opponent a sniff. My message to the players'I've coached is, handshake and you'll be dragged.

There's an excellent op shop on Wray Ave that has a lot of cheap dresses.
