So Shane you accept a stadium must be built or refurbed but you don't like the location?

I don't like Burswood either.

But we need a stadium and a deal has been done with Packer to minimise public funding, has it not?

I dont know anything about a deal. My point was, if there's no flow on economic benefit in building the stadium then building it in the most expensive place is stupid.

Also, if they can make that holographic replay machine, you could play all the games in a TV studio and holocast it live to stadiums everywhere. Then I could throw things at Luke Shuey and not be arrested.

Do you guys feel the same way about the Perth Arena or are you offsetting the economic benefits of Spandau Ballet and Fleetwood Mac touring?

I don't know. What were the taskforce recommendations for the Arena?

I'd feel the same way about the Arena if they'd stuck it in Packer's back yard.

There is a reason why it's in Packers back yard.

There are reasons a WA Liberal politician won't be seen publicly getting big business involved in state owned assets.

The deal will be cut sometine around when they put the pathways, roads and rail lines in place. "Oh you want the road from the stadium to lead where Mr Packer".

Back on the holograms. How good would it be to go to the 20 year anniversary of the 2020* premiership and actually watch the game being holocast onto Sir James Packer Stadium.

*5 years seems long enough for the cameras, they put a man on the moon in 8.

pfft, Taskforce report.

you can try to turn selecting a site for a stadium into an objective science, but it's clearly not. it's about a longer term vision.

we may not like that vision (me, I always wanted them to work out E Perth and get a precinct like they have in Sydney with the SCG and the Boofhead Ball stadium) but the thing is being built so there's not much to be gained from continuing to bag it except a sense of self-righteous smugness. I've got enought of that already, thanks.

Barnett announced Burswood, then asked Packer for money. Packer politely declined.

The fact that there wasn't a back room deal was one of the worst aspects of the whole arrangement.

You reckon having some sort of agreement with the major stakeholders like the AFL and Cricket might have been handy as well, but that's just detail stuff really... in the big picture.

Exactamont.

Barnett went to meet Packer in 2011 to discuss it. Details of which haven't been revealed. If he'd got any cash, we'd have known about it, and Barnett would have be spruiking his negotiating nous, and talking up the taxpayer savings.

I don't see why a Lib pollie wouldn't side with big business and use state assets. Didn't they do that with PCEC? We paid for it, business owns it.

But didn't Packer get a casino expansion out of it?
