Be interested to read some of the fan theories as to how we might improve to get out of the "rut" we are in currently.
There's been a bit of finger pointing going around, but only a handful of genuine suggestions.
I personally think it's time to roll the dice a little and play Sandilands and Griff in the team together. Sandilands would probably take 55% of the ruck, spend 40% at full-forward and 5% on the bench. Griff would spend 45% time in the ruck, 50% at full-forward and 5% on bench.
With a ruckman at full-forward 90% of the time, we have a bail out kick option. Provided the ball is kicked properly, neither is probably going to get outmarked.
The second plan would be to open up the forward line. Have Pav starting just out of the goal square and only Ballantyne and Walters in the vicinity. It's been pointed out by Shane and others that Pav's not really out of form, he's just not getting the ball kicked to advantage all that often. Pav's strength is ability to win the one-on-ones.
I can't see how we can really improve the midfield or backline with the current crop available to us. It would be nice to be able to isolate Stephen Hill a bit more, but the good coaches just don't let it happen. Hill is a bit like our Cyril. His 15-20 touches are worth more than Barlow's 25-30.
While yesterday wasn't pretty, I'm not thinking it's doom and gloom from here. We got a severe audit yesterday. Better to happen in July than in October. If anything, the loss will prove to Ross and co that significant changes need to be made.
