I've said it before and I'll say it again, our lack of forward structure will kill us if RL is so concerned with maintaining the one solitary plan he wants and never changing or wavering from it, any time, any where against anyone. It's just not practical.

We struggled in the clearances because we had stagnant players with no space to move into. We can't throw it on the boot because we play 4 forwards a kick from the contest against 6 defenders with little space to lead so they are constantly out marked and out numbered on the ground. There's no leads for the same reason and we completely break down going forward. The few times we looked alright were going the length of the ground with an extra number free out wide and drawing an opponent before giving it off. That should not be our go to for scoring opportunities.

We could blame the players but they can only do so much in such a horrible set up. It needs to be sorted and fast but I have no faith in our coaching staff to change anything at this point. expect more of the same with low scoring close games until we play other premiership fancies where we'll struggle as they all throw extra numbers back and apply pressure at the contest.

Looking at the performance of players from Peel over the weekend I think it's time for Roly to give one or two of the following a go against Carlton:
Ballard (inside mid)
Blakely
Langdon
Weller
Crozier (HF)
Griffin (replaces Clarke). Play Griff up forward most of the time.

Play Fyfe 60/40 forward/high midfield - even FF for starters in this game.

Totally agree! Mayne looks to just run around and really does little. Ballas try to tackle people with his his head every week. Neither seems to know where a small forward should be....ie either front and square or on the lead.
Surely its time to give someone else a crack?
And I hate to say this as Hendrix used to be one of my favs but its time Griff got a go at full forward given his recent good form. I like Hendrix on the wing myself...with emphasis on drifting back to plug holes.

I like Ballard's game. He's real goer and plays well week in week out, whether Peel are winning or losing.

Yes, he deserves a game but the only problem is we've got so many bloody midfielders that he is still on our rookie list.

Mayne worked his jacksy off and presented time and time again. If there was forward pressure, he was at the front of it. If that doesn't warrant selection, fair enough.

I saw the issue was the speed of ball movement. Where Hawks just took off and always had someone running past, we nearly always went behind our mark, sized it up and slow played it. Chalk and cheese.
