Watched him play the filthy buzzards on the weekend, not a bad effort but has a touch of the sooks about him. When he missed marks he went to ground threw his arms up and looked to be pleading with the lord as to why he dropped the ball. In short - first reaction was to carry on like a pork chop, second reaction was to remember he was in a game of football. Does Freo chase him as our Marquee forward, is there someone else we can grab or do we grow our own?

Get any big forward that we can get for nothing!! It has worked well in the past. The only success we had was the one we turned into a backman. ( And then he went home)

Nah continue to work on growing our own. The good players seem to want to stay at Freo when we develop them from the draft. The good players from anywhere else either don't want to be here, or pack up and go home when mummy calls or when they have their super sorted.

Do you reckon we come across as a bit of "family club" rather than a "party club" to some young blokes? I mean you wouldn't come to Freo intending to head out on the town with Pav, Sandi and Mundy. "Sorry, Jesse, but I've got to make some bottles of formula," doesn't sound like the sort of thing a twenty-year old with stacks of dosh would want to hear.
All of which I am glad, of course.

Gold Coast are a team split between party animals and prayer loving God Squaders.

Must be hell for an atheist teetotaler.

the great tragedy here is the fact we have all the pieces in place to keep challenging for a flag for a while. But we have seemed to make no genuine effort to get a forward.

What we can do is trade for a top ten draft pick and that means giving up our first round pick and a quality ruckman for a key fwd.

His contested marking was crap for much of the game - but then again, playing Howe in the back line for a net gain of 3 marks was plain stupid. I would've given Roos a spray for his coaching last weekend.

Yet, it looked to me like Hogan was more than a bit conscious of his back on the weekend - the way he ran, the inability to scoop the ball of the ground, even the way he stayed back from a contest (later in the game). I have a good feeling that he will need the same op that Johnno had - in my view, before the end of the year.

I think Fyfe has to play CHF and that has to start now Mayne can go back and Blakely comes in.

Something new has to happen to capitalise on our inside 50s. How many air balls do we see go inside and rarely get marked.....too many.

Play Fyfe chf, give it a try against the cardboard kings next week.

Any chance of retiring Sandy to full forward and bring Griff into the Rucking caper?

It won't make any difference playing Fyfe as chf because you can't take a mark with your opposition dragging you to the ground before EVERY contest without a whistle even being raised to the mouth.

Fyfe as a forward is quite simply bad mathematics.

The most efficient goal scoring teams in the league average a goal every 3.5 - 3.8 inside 50's.
The worst team averages a goal every 4.7 i50's (Essendon).
Freo is currently sitting around 4.0 ... about average. That is pretty good given the conditions of Fremantle's previous 5 games.

Freo currently average about 8 i50's per game, less than Hawthorn.
If we averaged the same i50's as Hawthorn and changed nothing about our Forward structures and players, we would be 2 goals a game better off.
Fyfe is our 2nd best i50s man. If you take him out of the midfield, you reduce Freo's i50s.

At best we may become more goal efficient, but we would definitely have less i50s. The benefits are outweighed by the costs. Bad maths. (never mind considering Fyfe's Clearances and Contested Possession stats)

And, although the bombing the ball inside 50 and seeing a pack go up and no marks being taken by our forwards looks bad, it has actually been producing goals. We have been crumbing and snapping quite a lot of goals from this.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.
