A bit of an unusual view of the round for me this weekend as I'm in Melbourne and missed my first home game in a long, long time. Anyway,
-Freo are still off the form that they showed at the beginning of the year. A consistent problem appears to be score board pressure from multiple inside 50 entries.
- Ballas showed some good signs and seems to be getting back to pre - 2015 form
- I thought Suban's grunt work in the first half was very important.
- hard to judge ZaC and Tabs based on the conditions.
- Tendai would have loved those same conditions. I'm not sure what he needs to do to get a game.
- same old complaint about Sandi. The umps treat him like the oversized kid in an under 12 game. The other kids can jump all over him and it's play on, but if he so much as looks like getting physical it's a free kick,
- next week will be tough. Coming off a shorter break than the Hawks, heavy legs from playing in the wet and a long road trip, must have an impact.
- I went to watch the Bullies play the Blues. The only thing I learnt is that it is still possible for a player to play at AFL level if they are 168cm tall.

I went and watched Peel on Saturday which was awful. Tendai looked off the pace and wouldn't have enhanced his selection chances. Peel looked similar to us yesterday. There was no quick spread And lots of handballs to stationary players and shocking up and under kicks that hung in the air and allowed subi players to pick the pass off time and time again. But, I liked the look of Blakely, Ballard and believe it or not I thought Vandeleur played a really team orientated, intelligent game in the backline. I think Weller needs to be on the outside more. He's very skilful but light and was constantly locked up in a tackle or tackling so not much opportunity to show his skill. Griff was a rock and Hurley has good strength and position inside, can take a mark but his kicking is still a work in progress.

i) I love everything De Pig brings to the team...his grunt work, his tackling pressure, his hair, just everything, reckon he should be starting rather than a sub...
ii) Not sure I agree with Roly when he said in his post-game presser that "people have to grow up and learn to play in anything" when asked about possibly making a late change in light of the wet conditions, though I reckon Tabs was in the team just in case they had to sub Pav out with his gastro...
iii) Speaking of which, what a bloody champ Pav is to play and be instrumental in that last quarter in spite of his illness..
iv) Hopefully being dropped has helped Hendrix turn the corner, because he looked alright yesterday, ran and worked a lot harder than in previous weeks...
v) Re-watching the last quarter at home, I sincerely hope that light that was flicked on during that quarter will carry through to the game with the Hawks, even if I am somewhat concerned about what impact the tough slog in the wet (again) will have on the boys...

WtB reckon Gu feels the same i.e doesn't know what he has to do to get a game so Maynefan in desperation he decided to use the get low possession numbers that Duff employed in the 2's as it seemed to work for him.
As for Clarke's work rate, whilst better & conditions didn't suit, I recall when Hill got pinged for going too far the next obvious link was Clarke whom was 40m further down the field with a 3m start on his opponent on the correct side for Hill who was looking to use his natural left foot. Clarke gave him nothing. Was pretty damning and no doubt will/should be talked about in the review when he sits down with Roly.
The bloke who monitors & provides feedback to Roly probably should have a little chat about talls & wet weather footy. Once it was decided Pav was in Tabs should have been out. As some one else mentions on here it's not rocket surgery.

Agree will RL that players in your 22 should grow up and play in all conditions. I cant see West Coast dropping Darling for another small just because it rains. However , unfortunately Tabs is no Darling.

i) Looking forward to the boys getting down to Tassie in the middle of winter for some dry weather football.
ii) A Pearce is showing all the early signs of being a 200-game key defender. Rarely beaten in the contest, stays calm when the ball hits the ground, chooses the right option.
iii) As good as Ballas is, Walters is our most dangerous and creative option in the forward half and the ball should go through him most of the time. So Ballas has to just keep doing what he's doing - attack every contest flat out and if he can manufacture 1-2 goals a game I'll take that. Where does that leave Mayne? Not sure..
iv) Our selection panel is in a mid-season form slump. Get Gu in the team, now!
v) WIth no Roughhead this week, play the long game and give AA Luke a rest. The most important thing is for him to be healthy come September. In fact I'd also rest Pav and Sandi.

i. If the umpires called every free for a hold, block or arm chop on Sandilands, the name of the game would have to be changed to Sandiball;
ii This clearly doesn't sit well with the AFL, so he gets nothing, nada, zilch, SFA;
iii Apparently, you're allowed to turn your back on the play and hold Fyfe at every stoppage;
iv But he'll still beat you, even with his pants around his ankles.

i The footy department at freo still hasn't taught Hilly how to kick with his right foot. Wish they had.
ii D Pearce can still snap a goal over his head from 30m out but can't get a set shot from the same distance.
iii Freo should recruit Paparone as well as Coniglio next year. End to end stuff: Morabito to Coniglio to Paparone. Goal!! All WA boys and would really get the wog quotient up even if Pav retires. Anyway, that's how I would build a footy team.

I. There should be a compensation payment made to spectators at one end of the ground when Michael Walters is playing forward in the opposite end. This would amount to 2 quarters every game - I suggest some form of alcohol voucher system.
II. Whatever noise the Phil Walsh tragedy cancelled out during game time this past weekend should be continued - you could actually hear the players on the ground (for the first time in my living memory).

Slammen their was a brief replay in which there was mostly silence from the commentators, then they decided he took a lot of steps??!!!?? So if you jog on the spot more than fifteen times is that holding the ball, nursing the ball, showing off or what? Completely baffling.

15.2.2 Remaining in Possession and Bouncing the Football
(a) A Player may remain in possession of the football for any length
of time:
(i) unless the Player is Correctly Tackled by an opponent;

(b) Where a Player is moving whilst in possession of the football,
the Player must bounce or touch the football on the ground at
least once every 15 metres, irrespective of whether such Player
is running in a straight line or otherwise. For the purposes of this
Law, a Player shall be deemed to be in possession of the football
during the period when the Player handballs the football to
themself and regains possession without the football touching
the ground.
(c) A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player if they are
of the opinion that a Player has contravened Law 15.2.2(b).
