The problem isn't quick kicks out of scrums, it's the set up ahead in preparation for those kicks. My biggest concern over the course of these wet games was our over possession of the footy with sideways passes by hand and foot which were causing far too many turn overs in the conditions and not allowing us to get forward with any speed or efficiency. It's just incredibly unlikely you're going to pick out a target too often in those conditions.

It looked like a few of our players finally decided to join Fyfe in the throw it on the boot option to clear the footy from congestion with Manic the stand out performer and Barlow getting small stints in the middle (also Dutchy on late was fantastic). It was great to see them start to play that way more consistently towards the end of the game but the issue then becomes our forward structure. If we line up a lot of players at the back of the pack to receive and out wide on the back flanks like normal then these players are not getting involved if we boot it forward (like we should). These players needed to be manning up spare opposition defenders and not allowing them to clear the secondary contest so easily. Our forwards were constantly battling an extra opponent or two and are always going to struggle let alone in those conditions where a mark is unlikely.

If it creates too much congestion in the forwardline with repeated ball ups we have the clearance players to beat any side in the comp and in those conditions you basically have to accept it and not be so precious with the footy and trying to dispose of it perfectly.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

It cracks me up that we are branded as poor wet weather players when we have won three of three wet weather games this year. Games played in biblical conditions are almost never high scoring, most games played in any conditions are broken open in one quarter dominated by one of the teams playing, Freo did both those things yesterday.
The fact we scored above 80 points in those conditions is credit to the team. A six goal win is an increase in our overall percentage. Brisbane hung around for three quarters, they did the same against Adelaide last week and got blown away, its what we used to do, now we are the team that kicks away to a winning score. We beat the Hawks last time we played them, they are minus Roughhead and Frawley. If we play our style and make them accountable they are beatable. They lost to GWS and Essendon FFS.

Finally bpurple has stepped up to the plate and deliver a sensible analysis, to Freo's performance of late. Whatever price Freo are on this weekend is delicious. Hawks will be feeling the pressure more then us. They are currently vulnerable on the AFL ladder. For those who think the Hawks are going to smash us, I'll have some of your money thanks.

Winning does not make us perfect and leave us problem free. We have clearly had plenty of issues in the wet and if you want to ignore them then they will bite us in the ass. Struggling to beat Brisbane and the Gold Coast is not a good effort at all.

I think there is more to it than that, jezza. We don't seem to be able to move the ball out of defence with any cohesion; we only score from stoppages and centre clearances now. That was the case against Collingwood and it wasn't raining and they had us running around like headless chooks!!!

You people saying we have only dropped one game - have a look at Lyon in the box. He is worried, bemused, frustrated and angry.

He is paying out on Stone and Kirk.

Dry and a max around 8-10 in Launceston this weekend. Will be good to see how Freo go on a dry track, which they haven't played on in 6 weeks.

I still think Lyon has switched the game plan from first quarter blowout to the fourth quarter (2013 without Crowley). Teams every week since Richmond have followed the same game plan and playing congested footy to stop the quick ball out from the mids and to stop the deep kick to the tall forwards being dropped at Walters' feet. Our backline is still holding up, considering who is out. If you look at the Hawks scoreboard in the past month, they haven't gone on with it until well after half time, yet still considered the team to beat by most pundits.

I don't think Lyon has the right mix yet, but still has cattle to come back and time for form to *hopefully* come back into a few key players.
