Did appear to me that McPharlin and Spurr had sure hands handling the wet ball.

I think its those midfielders that train that keepings off, hot potato-hot potato handball stuff at stoppages, its very slick and fast, give it off as soon as you get it, but it becomes high risk in wet weather.

Maybe in a slog that scrambled kick out really is the better option for gaining some territory - but that's also dependent on players upfield anticipating and attacking that quick kick out.
