TOPIC: 2025 National Draft

With the Draft soon to be on us and a report in today that the Weagles were considering lobbing in an early bid for Carlton father/son prospect Harry Dean I was wondering if we could also fire in an early bid for Claremont's Charlie Banfield. The kid is an absolute gun and at least equal in talent to our Academy prospects Toby Whan and Ryda Luke, as was clearly demonstrated in the WAFL Colts Grand Final. This would stuff up all of the Weagles draft plans if they had to match the bid as a father/son pick and if they didn't we would still have an exceptionally talented young addition to our list

Hard to guage who'll be available at our pick. There is so many academy/Father-son picks in the 20's and it's hard to tell who is going to fall through to our pick. We don't need another forward. A winger would be good. Maybe a tall back if Cox or Ryan go down? Not many rucks available either.

Don't really care who we get.
I am sure that wallsy and co have done their homework and will have lined up another left field jet, ala Murphy Reid.

For tall defenders we seem to be quite invested in the future development of Davies, Murphy and Draper, with Oscar McDonald currently the reliable experienced option. Davies seems to be just about right for next step and Ollie Murphy, after a few injury problems, looks to be developing nicely but Draper seems to have gone backwards a bit in the last season. The really interesting and unpredictable aspect of the Draft lies in where bids may come for all the Father/son and Academy prospects who have nominated and whether clubs will actually match these bid, especially with the revised rules surrounding the points value of picks.

I think we need a blistering fast outside runner and a small forward. Walls has said we are only likely to take two in the draft so I assume one of those will be an nga. I like the look of Lachy Dovaston or Latelle Pickett as small forwards and Jevan Phillopou of Harley Barker as midfielders. Will be interesting to see who is available with all the likely bids.
Not a lot of talk about Toby Whan so hopefully he’ll slip through to us as a later pick.

Another Murphy Reid, and maybe a Josh Treacy or Paddy Voss would fill the tank nicely. Spud, Josh and Paddy have shown you don't have to be speed merchants, you just have to know when and where to go.

RM, the good thing about the three you mentioned is that Treacy was a rookie pick and Voss was a preseason supplemental pick. Should give us confidence that our recruiting team will bring in some quality players regardless of where or how they are acquired.

We were smashed in the midfield against GCS. You can never have enough of these guys, especially big bodied ones like Fyfe and O'Meara. Young is great but needs overlap if he can't stay on the park for 25 games. Clearly Brodie wasn't the answer, perhaps Erasmus or Johnson can bulk up?

Murphy Reid will be good in the future but isn't the same size as his less talented namesake H. Reid. We need another big one.

Is Jackson big enough for you?

Jackson plays in the ruck, forward line and on the ball. He can't play in 3 positions at once.
