Serong wins the Doig and Fyfe’s farewell is worth a listen.

I don’t know how Luke Ryan didn’t get within the top 10 players?

yeah, I would have thought Luke was ahead of Brennan Cox/Heath Chapman.

I see Freddy was top 10. Will that silence the calls for him to be dropped? Probably not...

All small forwards have successive games where they do very little and seem destined to be dropped. Look at Charlie Cameron in latter parts of season but Fagan maintained his faith in Charlie and he bounces up in a Grand Final and destroys Geelong. I've been privately critical on quite a few occasions this season of Freddie's lack of enthusiasm and input but he is just as capable of these spontaneous bursts that can turn a game on it's head so must be retained. I'm sure Haydn Ballantine also had games where he couldn't even get a disposal and we would never have considered dropping him or Sonny Walters at times.

Balla was on another level to Freddie and I never saw him not give all he had to give. Amen

Loved watching that bloke play. He and Vossy would’ve been a good watch too.

Ballas was great at fearlessly taking on blokes twice his size, and also falling over

Noddy, the idea of Ballas and Vossy playing in the same team almost made my head explode!!
Imagine the aftermath of the Scarlett punch!

Ballas always gave 110% in every contest to the point that his turning circle was so sharp he fell over on occasions. I also never saw him shirk or flinch in a marking contest like Freddie or miss an opportunity to lay a tackle,

I would never cast aspersions on Ballas' intent or commitment but just highlighted the fact that even champions of the game like he and Charlie Cameron could have periods where they didn't have maximum impact on games but could then turn on outstanding games where they could win games off their own boots. In this respect Freddie is similar but their is no comparison between him and Ballas in terms of effort or commitment. Freddie frequently appears lazy and reluctant to commit to contests or even chase or put pressure on opponents which is crazy when you think of how fast he is and times where he has chased down opponents. Unlike Ballas or Cameron I don't think he should always be a walk up start every game merely based on his seeming lack of commitment and I believe he has been fortunate that Sam Sturt has not been available as a mid size forward alternative however it is his potential to turn games with his occasional brilliance that continues to maintain his spot in the team. It seems crazy to have this discussion after he has produced career best stats this season but I feel he is capable of better if he is more consistent in his effort in games, to match his natural talent.

Freddie could be anything with a bit more grit - he is an incredible athlete. My worry is that he disappears in the big games, when the pressure is high, since we're aiming for finals wins in 2026 and that is when the pressure is most intense.

How soft do you guys think Steven Hill was?
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The Doig was a good night with a lot of good speeches, you can tell the boys are all up to dig in and go hard next season. Kath Loughnan did another fantastic job MCing the night and the farewell speeches from Fyfe and Sonny were uplifting tear jerkers..

Midway through the night they played a podcast with Voss where he talks a lot about his path to Freo and the effort he now puts in. It was a really interesting watch and provided a lot of insight as to how far he has come. Check it out below:

I think people are forgetting all the times Freddy has gone in hard or back with the flight, stood in the hole to mark without knowing if JT, Nev or the Pony was charging into his back.

It's a silly line to say these footballers won't go hard when it's their turn or that they are soft. They are out there putting their bodies on the line every week and will do so repeatedly. However, not every body is made for that physicality and someone has to hold space. Hill was instructed not to go in and under to get the footy like that, to get himself banged up when we had Barlow, Fyfe, Neale and a plethora of others thirsting to get in and under. We need runners on the outside to move the ball.

That's true but it takes nothing to chase or put pressure on an opponent and Freddie at crucial times completely lacks a defensive effort which is ridiculous when we all know how fast he is and his ability to run down an opponent if he chooses.
