Support your point CA. Alignment with Freo and Leafs is obvious. Being a life-long Habs fan, at least I can say I support the last Canadian team to win the Cup. I just don't mention too often that it was back in 1993.

Anyway, Freo and a winning team in the Habs gives good balance...

If ever there was a year for a Canadian win it's now, or even better the next four years. It doesn't seem right that teams from Florida and Las Vegas have won five of the last six Stanley Cup ice hockey championships.

Connor McDavid is the Nat Fyfe of hockey players and I feel his career will follow the same path.

Winter Olympics 2026 - Canada for gold in the hockey - fuck the NHL, its totally rigged towards expansion markets in US states that don't even see snow in winter

It's the Canucks for me - although, to be fair, it's only a passing interest brought about by my daughter's ex playing ice hockey here in Perth - and amusing, but not surprising, that Dockerlanders appear to favour Canadian teams over American ones.

lol, I hadn’t expected so many hockey fans on a dockers site. My wife is from Toronto. So by default I decided to support all Toronto teams. Served me well in the NBA, but not so much in NHL. I would say that yes, the championship winning abilities of both the Leafs and the Dockers is similar. The experience is different. The Leafs are like the Collingwood of the NHL. They have supporters in every city and tend to out number the home fans, because it cheaper to watch them on the road than at home. Also the fan experience is different. Toronto fans are absolutely ruthless. Oneregular season loss, and the amount of vitriol is amazing. Toronto just ran their second best player out of town after taking Florida to a game seven, before they eventually won the Stanley Cup. The only team to really trouble them. Tearing down a team after getting so close. Anyway I think the Dockers community is less unhinged.

I don't know how we got on to hockey ('ice hockey' is a shibboleth--never uttered by a Canadian) but this is giving me the feels a bit because somewhere deep in the archives Polllyanna made a reference to the Blades (a minor league team) which signalled to me that he and I shared a connection to Sasktaoon (where I spent most of my childhood).

I never got to probe to find out more

Roo - dig a little deeper and I reckon you'll find Marner ran himself out of town, a lot of bitching and moaning about pay/bonus/respect compared to others on that roster

but yes, Toronto fans and local media are ruthless and relentless

This is awesome guys, deep dive on the Leafs. I never thought I would find Hockey fans here of all places.

Yes Marner s hold out on his first contract made him a target and he never lived up to it in the playoffs. But the Toronto fans are psychos.he valued himself too highly, but they will struggle to replace him. The team was just built wrong and I blame Shanahan for not changing it up after the 2021 playoff loss to Montreal. They’ve really shafted themselves.

Despite my age I still play field hockey. Or just "hockey", if you prefer.

Chilli - I follow a Canadian team because that's where I come from - 40 years ago. I'm from the broader Toronto area, but followed my older brother going for the Habs. We have great fun watching Leafs fans every year at finals time.

BTW - it took a long time to get used to saying ice hockey instead of hockey so others knew what I was talking about...

Good gravy, this has me wondering how many expat Canadians (living and departed) are hanging around Dockerland.
My team growing up was the Canadiens. I am old enough to remember Guy Lafleur flying across the ice, with his long windswept locks

My only recollection of anything to do with ice hockey is from 1985 when a mate and I did a road trip across the States and into Canada. We stumbled across a small town north of Toronto called Parry Sound. It was cold enough to freeze the nuts off a bike. Anyway, as we drove into town there was a life size placard of an ice hockey player and a sign saying “Welcome to Parry Sound; the home of Bobby Orr.” Never heard of the bloke at the time but whenever I tell this story to a Canadian they all seem to know who he is.
