TOPIC: Amiss

I think he has put on too much bulk too quickly, but he will grow into that. He will also find his own space in time. When Jackson comes back, oppositions will not know where to go. The opposition also do not easily win the ball when Amiss contests.

Regardless of which side of this argument you sit on, he’s got at least the next 3 weeks at the top level now. Zero replacements available.

For the record, I’m on the “he stays in the team, he’ll come good” camp. Plus he’s part of the structure that helps Treacy dominate, so there’s that also.

I play as a second tall forward in my masters team. The CHF, bloke by the name of Lyon (and yes, cousin I think), is the mainstay and very good. I have just graduated to the 50s squad this year and we'vee only played one game for the season so far. I feel for Amiss though. I am taking one of the best defenders, if not the best one as I am a bit bigger, younger and faster than our CHF. I am leading, creating space and doing what I can to pressure defenders when we haven't got it. My team tend to kick it to the CHF a lot more. According to the other guy, his life was a fair bit easier because of what I was doing. Our smalls appreciated me halving contests and making space for them as well. We didn't get the win, even though Libba was at Optus watching his young bloke, but we got real close and were a solid chance at 3 quarter time. I intend to keep doing what I am doing knowing that my lick of the ice cream will come. I know 50s masters and AFL are not the same, but I also know that just because Jye isn't racking up possesions and goals doesn't mean he is playing bad football. Actually, I'd argue he is far from doing that and is a significant reason that The Big Cohuna is playing as well as he is.

This is actually fairly accurate, and pretty much why FFC basically put out a release on Jye's last 15 minutes against the Bulldogs- to head people off at the pass. But he does have to make every post a winner. A highlight was his one touch pickup in defence in the last against Richmond... he does that inside fifty and dobs one we are lauding his praises and he dines out on that for a long time. A player without confidence doesn't make a pickup like that. But less touches equals more pressure every time he does kick at goal. I'm still in the he'll come good camp.

Personally, I think any discussion of dropping Amiss is ridiculous and proves who does and doesn't know footy. The kid is doing fine and helping our forwardline function well. He plays his role and goals will come like when he kicked 4 a couple weeks ago.

Nevermind there's actually no one to replace him in the WAFL and dropping Amiss does nothing for his development.

The person to replace Voss as the backup ruckman is Cox. He's done it before when he was much younger and slighter and did it well then. We have a surplus of key defenders atm with he, Pearce, Draper, Ryan and Chapman all able to play tall with another small defender likely on the way into the side this week (Wagner). The Demons also play a smaller forwardline so all that height is kind of redundant and we could use some more run.

Cox has also shown great form pinch hitting forward in the past, he is the man for the job.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Interesting as well, that Cox was the one to pop up on Docker TV chatting to interviewer about the very subject of playing relief ruck on Saturday.

I heard that May might miss this week, so if so, then we could probably replace Vossy in the fwd line with a midfielder... Erasmus, Cooper Simpson maybe.
Looks like you've got the 2nd ruck sorted.
As for Amiss, he's doing alright and might get a bag this week too...

With no Day or Lever on Saturday this is definitely the week for Amiss to shine. If I were promoting someone for midfield/forward I'd go for Quentin Narkle. 31 disposals and a goal plus he can provide cover in defence if needed, Not sure if he'd be unnecessarily duplicating the role that Dudley fills if he's promoted from sub role.though.

We’ve got two key forwards and Bolton can take a mark. Banfield is serviceable in the air.

We’ll be fine with a slightly smaller team. I think it would do Longmuir some good to have a look at that option, even if it’s forced.

Draper or Cox to rock, scissors, paper for sacrificial back up ruck duties.

A point which was being made On the Couch on Monday, not sure who by, was that teams that won in finals were predominantly by the smaller forwards rather than tall key position players so JL would be well advised to keep that as an option. Even if Sturt manages to fight his way back into the side later in season he is not really a tall by comparison to Treacy, Voss, Amiss or Jackson.
Oscar McDonald on the plane to Melbourne apparently, where does he fit into the mix?

Backline, Cox to second ruckman, depending on conditions.

So, minimal change to team structure, I like it.
