And there should be many. Cooper Simpson should play and play regularly.

They need a big body in there, Serong and Brayshaw are not big guys, play Will Brodie. And Im not one to belligerently stick to an argument to save face, theres too many of those people in the world today, Reidy was poor. I always think when out of your depth you go to ground, well thats what I used to do. The ruck is a real issue and you dont win flags without a ruckman. I'd go with Voss, he'll compete and won't get shoved around as much.

In the backline, I don't know where to start. The decision not to start Chapman is unfathomable unless his pre season was interrupted. Wagner, Walker and Worner, my heavens they make errors. Walker needs a different role. I don't know what to do, maybe Aish for Worner???

I am making five changes:

Bolton for Switkowski
Simpson for Banfield
Erasmus for Worner
Chapman for Wagner
Voss for Reidy

I’d find a place (at least on the bench) for Will Brodie.

Simpson copped a bad ankle injury yesterday in the WAFL Could be weeks out
Agree with all moves Hypen except I'd go with Chapman for Banfield, retain Wagner and maybe try to find a spot for Fyfe providing he's pulled up ok from yesterday's run in the WAFL

I was at the ground yesterday and our rebound from half back was clearly a problem due to our collective failure to cope with intense pressure and execute basic skills to an AFL standard. Our lack of composure across half back cost us dearly last year in close matches.

Jordan Clark is a terrific player and had a great season in 2024 but I’m not convinced by the options we have on the other flank. And even Clark can be skittish at times.

When I cycle through the options at JLo’s disposal, the player that would make the biggest difference across half back is Hayden Young.

Of course then we lose his brilliance in the midfield and up forward, although perhaps he can have license to push up at times and have the winger drop back to cover when he surges forward.

If we play Young as an attacking half back then I reckon we put Murphy Reid in the guts and see what happens. I reckon he will excel. It also creates room for Fyfe so we can find out whether he can help us this year.

If Murphy plays on the ball it creates an opportunity up forward for the likes of Simpson and Sturt.

What do you think?

Clarke, Wagner, Walker and Chapman should be enough dash from out the back.
Young in the middle as the 3rd wheel and Fyfe or Brodie to replace Johnson.
Johnson got plenty of the ball but isn’t damaging.
Bruce Reid isn’t a spud, but doesn’t add any extra grunt to the midfield yet.

Skill under pressure has been an issue since the 2nd year of Justin’s rule. Under ross Lyon we were atrocious at the end and Justin in his first year improved from the worst skill to at least somewhat acceptable.

The skill level has stagnated from there. Is it confidence?

Luke Ryan was abysmal yesterday especially when not even bending down to pick up the ball than going under his hand to a Geelong opponent for another easy goal.

Our defenders are in the bottom few teams when it comes down to one on one defending. Without a dominant midfield they leak goals. I counted 4 of the first 6 for Geelong down to either basic skill errors or poor decisions with the ball.

I get most defences are not great without a good midfield , but we are exceptionally poor.

There was not enough midfield options yesterday - just a poorly chosen side with 8 defenders chosen!

Yes the players were poor but this goes down to the coaching panel !

What also needs to disappear , is the group hug BS in the changerooms, before the game.

Did anyone else see that. ?

If thats part of their preparation, ...you can expect more junket sandwich soft performances, like the weekend.

We desperately need a bit of 'mongrel' in our approach...JLo shouldnt be questioning " toughness", when he prepares them like that..
