Sean Darcy off to Doha for a new leg - here

"We're looking for any short-term gains to assist with Sean's return to play, but we are also looking at the long-term stability of his knee."

Do you remember when Clem Michael had new cartilage grown from a culture of his existing cartilage in Scandinavia?

Well, going to Qatar is what we now do a quarter of a century on. All part of the plan.

They haven't done much wrong at all in the past five or so years so it's hard to be too critical but moving Lloyd Meek out and signing this guy for life is a shocker, a shocker. And it's getting worse by the week.

Darcy is very injury prone. Did we sign him up for 10 or 15 years?

Chapman went to the same spot last year, after a bunch of hamstrings, and played a lot more games last year than the one before. Darcy is a much better player than Meek. While he did good things at the Hawks, I think I'd rather have 16 games out of Darcy than 22 out of Meek. Who's to say we didn't want to keep him anyway? Likely we did, as he'd have been great back up, but he wanted a regular game and Hawks offered him that.

I'd take 12 games from Darcy to Meeks' 22.

You're not getting them. Don't turn this into a Darcy is better than Meek, of course he is.

It's how often he plays and the two first round picks we didn't get. It's literally Warner and Pickett.

Darcy has averaged 17 games a season for the last 5 years, which uncommonly good for a ruckman his age.

Best case scenario is he’s a big unit with a very long contract and they are just taking every precaution with him. Worst case is there is a real problem and they haven’t been able to figure out how to treat it.

I have no idea how worried to be, but our fitness team have had some decent results the last few years. I’d be inclined to back them in.

If Big Sean does miss games at the start of the year I’ll be really interested to see how Jackson goes in the ruck. He started like a house-on-fire in the ruck last year, and by the end of the year we had to pick *looks up name* Liam Reidy to play in the ruck because Jackson was a dead-set liability there.

Darcy likely needs to now be better managed to maximize his effectiveness for us. I doubt whether he’s going to get any more physically robust endurance wise, so develop a regime of using him better than we have in the past. Ruck is a tough position and he’s too good to have breaking down.

I’ve seen plenty of players like Reidy who can develop nicely if given a chance.

Totally agree Nod he is a very valuable player to us who obviously will need managing through a game and his career. if he can give us first access to the pill at the centre bounce then he has done his job. We have one of the best mid fields in the comp and forward lines who can finish the job off.

Liam Reidy from what I have seen off him at Peel will step up to the challenge and prove he is deserved off another contract extension. He is a good kick and with more experience gain the AFL smarts to dominate in the centre and boundary toss ins. 24 years of age and 6 feet 8inches he will deliver !!

If it was me, when we play teams with a very big mid/on ball player like Cripps, Bont, Green over 190cm etc I’d be using Jackson occasionally as a big mid for us. Too many times previously teams have got a run on of clearances which we’ve generally done nothing creative to negate or stop.

Sounds very ' Harleys Calves ' to me.... (i.e. we've tried, but we can't fix this problem...)

what is Doha gonna say..? "Don't be 120kg and run around & jump alot..."???

As long as German specialists arent involved , ...maybe we are safe...?

We're one step away from, "who knew that Meek was going to be this good"...."he didn't do that in his third season at Fremantle"....

Darcy is bone on bone. You can still play, not for that long though. Helps if you aren't two stone over weight.

We’re in a “premiership window” and our spearhead ruckman has a dodgy knee ffs.
We better have bet that rucks are overrated and midfield stars can cover that hole….. otherwise what’s the point?

Malthouse won flags at wce and Collingwood without a ruckman, what are you all worried about?

Where does this ‘bone on bone’ and ‘degenerative knee’ talk come from? His missed time in 2023 because of an ankle injury. He had a PCL injury early in his career (which is inevitable for ruckman), but other than last year he hasn’t missed much time.

Honestly, the only sources I’ve seen for this type of language is from Cornes, Flagmantle, and Hypen.
