I think this trade period maybe judged very harshly with some of our selection.

We crapped the bed as soon as we handed 10 11 and 18 to Rich and got back 14…
It crippled our options and was clear from the outset it would come back to haunt us.
It cost us Allan, berry or even an exceptional trade for next year.
This decision was just as foreseeable.
We put all that work into him to risk another club grabbing him,
Crazy - we do lots of good stuff but when we stuff up we really have howlers!

Yes, we certainly outsmarted ourselves with this one. Max was developing nicely and I would rate him ahead of Reidy as far as good long term AFL level prospect - in that I don’t see upside with Reidy and he’s not AFL level whereas Knobel has plenty of upside.
Maybe we go to Gold Coast at the end of next season and see if they will trade Reidy for Knobel in a straight swap?

Definitely won the Smarty Pants Award of the Draft by losing Knobel and wasting 2 years of ruck development but I think this could have worked in our favour as, if you watch Aiden Riddle's highlights reels, this kid has talent. He moves well around the ground for a big man, his tap work is really good, he takes marks around the ground and he kicks goals, all things that Liam Reidy does not do. In short I think he could definitely move ahead of Reidy in time and we may not miss Knobel after all. I'd be interested to hear what Biz has got to say about him now after being very dismissive when I suggested Riddle as a prospective target coming into the Draft.

$&@# me to tears, this. Delist Emmett, Knobel, lose Knobel as probably the standout young developing ruck in the league, and put a rookie list player at best on the main list. Just dumb outcomes here, admittedly at the fringe, but dumb nonetheless. A long way from defendable, let along excellence.

You can argue if Reidy is better than Knobel or vice versa but you can't keep both of them. Who ended up getting a game?

Riddle is Darcy lite, in weight only. By the end of 2025 he will be the second best ruckman on Freo's list. He, like Murphy shows an innate footy brain. That is what Bell & co saw in Darcy.

I think long term, Reidy may leave for greener pastures and Riddle will step up to be the future ruck when Darcy is injured. At a young age he does things that Reidy is only now starting to bring to his game.
