Asked the same thing in another thread Blocker. Draft tracker doesn't even have a position played for him.

They said the same about Sean Darcy and Mick Barlow. Wait and see.

Don't remember anything being said about those two, particularly Mickey B. who was actually picked up in the rookie draft.

Seems a strange one as he wasn’t really shooting the lights out at WAFL level but we have to trust our recruitment team, they’ve been pretty good for a fair while now.

No one said that about Darcy or Barlow. Barlow was going to Essendon in the PSD, but we snuck him in. Darcy would have been drafted shortly after if we didn’t take him. No one was taking Carr, guaranteed. He was the safest of rookie picks if someone really had to get him in purple, with their neck on the line.

We could have had Hamish Davis, a Freo supporter I believe, who I think has more upside yet we allowed him to go to the mob up the road. They must still be laughing about that one. I really hope Jaren proves me wrong and wish him well in the Purple.

The rumours mid-year were that Brisbane and Freo both wanted to add Carr in the mid-season draft however Brisbane had the earlier selection. As a result, Freo agreed to take Carr as a father-son in the national draft at the end of the year to avoid Brisbane taking him.

Carr did little after that stage that I saw and didn't really look like an AFL player but who knows, maybe he was tanking and ensuring no one else would try and draft him before Freo did. What the reality is we won't know. All I can say is that he hasn't done much to earn a selection on the main list ahead of some of the talent that was still available so there's a fair bit of pressure on him.

As a mid-sized half forward, it's a tough role to play and he'll have his work cut out to get past Sturt and Banfield. Even more so with Bolton and Murphy eyeing off roles there. Hopefully, he has the skills and the work ethic to go far. He's very slight atm so he'll probably need to spend the summer in the gym to have a real impact.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

BH, the so called media experts were not very impressed with either player, and were quick to say so when they were selected by Freo, I don't think many on D/L were critical. We were happy to wait and see what they showed on the ground. I suggest that might be the best approach with Carr as well.

Similar positives for Darcy

Sean Darcy is a ruckman from Camperdown, Victoria.

Darcy boarded at Xavier College in Melbourne and faced of a lot of travel while combining his school footy with his Geelong Falcons footy in the TAC Cup.

Performing well at both levels, Darcy was soon representing Vic Country and shining at the U18 Championships.

While Darcy possesses terrific physical strength and competitiveness to match, it was his craft and touch that was most impressive in his ruck work and he regularly fed his midfield brigade, giving his on-ballers first class service out of the middle.

At TAC level Darcy won the tap at 71 per cent of his ruck contests, which was clearly number one for ruckmen in the competition and he put an impressive 32 per cent of those to advantage, placing him second for ruckmen in the competition.

Darcy was also the dominant big man at national level, wining 72 per cent of all his ruck contests and putting 26 per cent of those to advantage at the U18 Championships. Darcy also has the ability to take a big grab and he showed that in a school representative game kicking four goals in a ruck/forward role.

Aggressive when needed, Darcy doesn't mind being physical and throwing his weight around, which can result in some big hits. He is an intelligent young man that has a huge amount of upside with his football as his running ability continues to develop.

20/20, CA, no club thought he was worth a first round pick in the draft, went at 38, so the write up was ignored because all but a couple of Freo scouts thought he was lazy.
