Thought I'd compile a bit of a pre-draft info post for those interested ahead of next Wednesday.

There's less than a week until the draft hits so if you want to check who might be available around our first two selections, Rookie Me Central have released their AFL Draft Guide which is incredibly comprehensive. They also have draft profiles on every kid likely to be drafted and they are fantastic and accurate with their strengths, flaws, stats and descriptions. If you're after a more Freo specific reference, they have this preview which is the most comprehensive and accurate for Freo that I've seen ahead of the draft.

Now that I've finished talking up Rookie Me Central, there are a bunch of draft rankings around by respected talent ID scouts. I've linked the articles for them and listed those kids in the 12-18 range where our first pick will be for reference of what talent sits around our selection. Albeit, these are not phantom drafts predicting who we will select, only where these draft experts rank each player.

Rookie Me Central - Detailed and comprehensive top 50 players
12 - Alix Tauru
13 - Taj Hotton
14 - Tobie Travaglia
15 - Isaac Kako
16 - Luke Trainor
17 - Xavier Lindsay
18 - Joe Berry

AFL.com - Cal Twomey who probably has the most inside knowledge from club's along with a pretty good eye for talent. His phantom draft next week ahead of the real thing will probably be the most accurate given the goss he gets. This is his top 30 ranking.
12 - Tobie Travaglia
13 - Leo Lombard
14 - Isaac Kako
15 - Joe Berry
16 - Taj Hotton
17 - Xavier Lindsay
18 - Jack Whitlock

ESPN - Top 50 ranking which is a compilation of a few draft experts coming to agreement.
12 - Isaac Kako
13 - Harry Armstrong
14 - Joe Berry
15 - Bo Allan
16 - Taj Hotton
17 - Jobe Shanahan
18 - Murphy Reid

The ABC - Top 30 draft ranking.
12 - Harry Armstrong
13 - Isaac Kako
14 - Xavier Lindsay
15 - Bo Allan
16 - Joe Berry
17 - Ollie Hannaford
18 - Taj Hotton

The Age has a ranking however it's behind a paywall. Below is an extract from their October ranking.
12 - Joe Berry
13 - Taj Hotton
14 - Jobe Shanahan
15 - Murphy Reid
16 - Bo Allan
17 - Ollie Hannaford
18 - Jack Whitlock

The Herald Sun also has a ranking behind a paywall. Below is an extract from their October ranking.
12 - Bo Allan
13 - Jobe Shanahan
14 - Taj Hotton
15 - Xavier Lindsay
16 - Jack Whitlock
17 - Alex Dodson
18 - Joe Berry
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

My hopes for the draft revolve around grabbing a wing/half back with our first selection and then nabbing whoever is best available and slips through to pick 30.

The ideal scenario for us is Travaglia or Lindsay making it through to our pick 14 (likely 17 after bids) and we have a fantastic runner with good disposal to develop at half back with an eventual move to the wing. Both of these guys are a chance to make it to us where they would be a strong chance to play games in 2025 and have an impact. There are some others around there who I wouldn't think will fit our needs but I trust whoever Walls and co grab at our first selection.

At 30, I'd be hoping Hannaford slips through but I know that is very unlikely at this stage. He had a horror 2km time trial at the draft combine but he seemed to do just fine running all day in the midfield so I'm writing off that result and expect clubs to do the same. An attacking midfielder or half forward is probably the right option with Hynes a chance to make it through or Davis if we want to go local.

We've been linked with Oliver as a rebounding half back and he is a chance to be available here. He is tough and is defense first but has shown a good ability to rebound and use the ball really well. He'd be a Luke Ryan replacement.

There's also a few tall forwards who we might pull the trigger on to develop if they slip through like Shanahan (we've interviewed him a lot) or Faull.

I do hope we use our third pick in the draft on one of the kids but I do fear the club has made commitments to Jaren Carr. I'm still unsure why but we'll have to wait and see what happens at that pick. There should be a lot of talented kids available there so fingers crossed Carr is a rookie pick at best.

Really can't see what is attracting us to Jaren Carr, apart from the sentimental Father/son link. If going local I'd much rather be looking at guys like Clancy Dennis, Kale Gerreyn, Hamish Davis or even Eagles supporter Hugh Boxshall. Also some of those Claremont colts Premiership team would be worth a rookie spot. The other plus I think we could be looking at with Carr is him being a more mature age body who we can call upon if needed to play in the seniors early.

Hey Biz - any worth in us packaging 14 &. 30 to move into top 11 - Say Melbourne’s 9 or Richmond’s 11 ( they’ll probs keep 10) to get someone who won’t fall to us ?

I don't think any side picking before us would be willing to drop back to 14 (effectively 17) for pick 30. It'd probably cost us our 1st round pick next year to move up and I wouldn't be prepared to pay that far over the top to move up a few places.

Our first pick is on the cusp of that first bracket of talented players, hopefully one of them slips through to us. If they don't, I can see us offering our pick 14 to drop down the order and get some draft capital to use next season.

Would Richmond entertain it considering where their list is at - gaining another top 30 (ish) pick ?
