What a disappointment the whole hamling saga was for both parties.

He played as a forward in the Sydney reserves team all season despite them being short of defenders at various times throughout the year.

He has now been delisted by Sydney but will be rookied.
His ego got the better of him and he left freo even after we matched Sydney. He could have stayed at freo and made a big difference to our backline and possibly been the difference in making the finals.

I don't know. I reckon he would have (or should have) fallen behind Draper in our depth chart, and then he would have been fighting for the odd game Davies played, and that was with Cox and Pearce going down with injuries.

I’m sure Hamling would have played a number role for games for us this season, but I think we’re far better off now having had to put that time into Draper and Davies. If McDonald didn’t get injured, who ultimately came in to replace Hamling, he would have played a lot more games than Draper and Davies too most probably. Funny how things pan out sometimes.

The thing I don’t understand or agree with is that Hamling is contracted for another year at Sydney, so they shouldn’t be allowed to delist him to the rookie him.

I know we play games like this also, but I don’t agree with it.

I think the greatest shame of all was that Sydney had no reliable tall forward going into the Grand Final and played an unfit Logan McDonald even though Hamling had been playing well in the VFL and kicking goals as a key forward. Probably one of the main reasons they got thrashed so comprehensively. That and the fact that there are a lot of players on their list who have been found out and lacking so badly in Grand Finals twice in 3 years. At least Hamling had played in a Premiership team and could have been relied upon to put up a good showing.
