We move the ball so quickly now. Forwards are running to goal before we have won the ball, short handball chains replace sideways kicks. The centre of the ground has replaced the open side of the ground.

And it seems to have all happened over night. Has it? Was this a tactical change or was this what they were always aspiring to do but didn't yet have the ability and confidence?

I truly wonder as it's one of the bigger changes I've seen mid season.

The players have been turning inwards and attacking with their kicks all season. The running in numbers through the midfield seems to have developed from halfway through the season.

We’re now so dominant at winning the ball it means we can push forward in anticipation, which gives us the jump on the defence. It might backfire from time to time but it’s thrilling to watch when it comes off.

The key players that now provide the ‘connection’ with the forwards are Young and Switta.

And to think, it’s Young’s first season with us as a mid! I reckon he’ll win a Brownlow one day.
