Listening to the TV commentary of Chappy's kick for goal from the boundary at the 11:25 minute of Q1, it was a magnificent kick, leading the commentator to ask rhetorically, 'with skills like that, why aren't you kicking more?" That's actually a good question. Wonder if the coaches saw that and thought, let's let Chappy drift down forward a bit more and perhaps he could be another option in the forward line.

Seriously, that goal was a thing of beauty.

If I recall rightly there was some talk from Freo that he might play on the wing this year.

But he's playing very good footy down back...

Maybe something to consider when Pearce returns and depending on the opposition set up?

One of the crucial kicks in footy is the angled kick from the backline into the corridor. It's risky, but dangerous for the opposition when it comes off, especially when Hayden Young marks it. Chapman is good at those kicks and will doubtless get better in time.

I honestly thought Chappy was a chance to kick that goal I don’t know why. Does everyone else just get an irrational feeling about a player lining up for goal that may – or may not – be related to their actual competence?

If I were to divide Saturday’s team into groups of irrational confidence, I’d have them like this.

I thought he was pretty lucky to get away with the ump letting him take the kick since Switskowksi was actually closer to where it went out on the full.

Which would be an assumed miss.

It was also good of Chapman to ignore Switta's arms out for the short pass, about 9 metres away, which would have been called play on and put him under pressure for a definite miss.

A bit tough on Switta - he’s no dead-eyed dick, but his accuracy stat isn’t bad at all, especially considering a lot of his shot are pretty speculative in packs and under pressure.
And, in any case, Switta can do no wrong.

Chappy was one earmarked for a wing spot during the pre-season but then went and got injured again.

Maybe next year he will make his way up the ground a bit as long as we can convert his spot in defence.

The commentators talk coz they like the sound of their own voices, take no notice of what they say, all our defenders are pretty good shots on gaol and take a ping when they do get up the ground, but JL is smart enough to tell them that. They are also very good as defenders, which is why they only take the occasional shot on goal.
