I'm a bit each way on this one. There's probably not much in it, but we can't just have blokes swinging arms back, willy-nilly. Whether it is belting blokes in the face, shoulder, stomach or nurries shouldn't make a difference.

Still, this will come down to knit-picking arguments of levels of intent and carelessness and the fact that a bloke got whopped in the schnozz will be a minor detail.

Heeney would have taken a lot of Brownlow votes off Warner and Guilden. They must sort of also feel dudded with Heeney suspended and no longer eligible. His votes obviously can't be redistributed.

Suspensions making people ineligible for the brownlow is an outdated and stupid term. Players are penalised with missed games (and thus missed votes) already which is plenty of a penalty. If you still poll the most votes then you are the best player in the season (according to the terrible umpire voted award which is a separate issue).

The number of silly little things you can be suspended for makes the rules regarding the brownlow eligibility a farce anyway. You could be standing still on a field and have someone run their head into you and now you're supposedly not fair enough to be the best player that season. It's a ridiculous requirement and should be removed.

I’ve been watching some VFL highlights and boy did those boys know how to get reported! No little taps on the snozzer for Brereton, Baker, Martin, Hall, Mathew’s et all. The commentators lapped it all up and wanted more! A far cry from Heeneys behavior, however if we all cast our memories back to Judd and Pavs head… inconsistent rulings go hand in hand depending upon which state you’re in.
