TOPIC: Fyfe

Is this the player Fyfe will be from here? My view is no. I think there is more to come. I don't think he'll reach 2015 levels, but i think he will keep getting better.

Others have told me this is the level he'll get to given the toll of injury.

No more Nat Fyfe things. Personally, I don't agree.

What do you folks think?

People struggle to adjust to change. He's not going to be the best player in the AFL again. He got old and injured and his time as the dominant player in the AFL is over. If this is as good as he'll get then that's fine.

Tthere are more players in the AFL worse than him than there are players who are better than him. If his name wasn't Nat Fyfe people would be happy with what he's done.

I would be a fairer comparison to be made with Patrick Dangerfield but Victorian sweethearts get a smoother run.

People would be asking him to defend more if his name wasnt Nat Fyfe, given his current output. You know the trade off. If you can't defend well you want to be, Nat Fyfe.

He's in my team cause I think he'll get better.

I'm assuming when you say "people" you mean "you".

And as we all know, no one cares what "people" think.

You do. And you know "people" are correct.

You're just defending him cause you're a good fella and a real fan.

Doesn't make you right though.

He dominated against the Bulldogs a couple of months back and then our coaching staff saw fit to start him as the sub the following week, against a side that he averages something like 2.9 Brownlow votes a game against. That seemed silly at the time and now seems worse.

He’ll have another massive game soon enough, hopefully people who get to make relevant decisions have figured out that it’s a game of momentum.

Its just with Brayshaw and Serong, the young fellas arent lightning defending either. Erasmus gets across the ground. I took the replay of the Doggies game and they ran us a bit. You can suspect Gold Coast to do the same.

Fyfe also struggles to adjust to change. He can’t break multiple tackles anymore. He needs to be a first (or second) give player and he’s not.

He adds a lot to the table and he takes a lot off. I don’t know how that shakes out because it varies wildly between games.

But we are at our best when Fyfe is playing well, so he stays.

In his prime I recall Fyfe was an effective and creative field kick.

I don’t recall another player in the latter stages of their career losing their kicking ability to the extent he has.

That said, he still offers plenty in other areas, but I wish he would stop shanking kicks so often.

His experience in a young group shouldn’t be underestimated, but he shouldn’t be guaranteed a game unless his performance stacks up.
