If the attached AFL data is correct, Longmuir is slightly behind Connolly and Lyon on win/loss ratios, and arguably with a far better list than both had. After five years when should expect an upturn, 2024, 2025?

You're missing the part where he had several years with a list far inferior that was rebuilding at the bottom of the ladder. Something RL specifically never had till his last year or two.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Lyon also inherited a list built by Mark Harvey which was ready to take the next step to finals success

I don’t think I’m missing anything. I’ll leave others to decide where we’re at and how long we’ll take to be a reasonably consistent side.

He will pick it up Noddy, we are coming. You just can't be week to week in this competition.

Sydney are the best team. They are pretty consistent.

Everyone else is having moments.
I think almost know we'll finish top four this year.

I know Chad Warner would be fantastic but I really think there is a team that can make a serious challenge for a flag within our current list. It's just a matter of finding the most successful consistent structure. It may take some of our more high profile players to be moved aside for a bit but we must look to play the best combination and loyal servants such as Sonny Walters and Nat Fyfe may need to move aside while the likes of Erasmus, Johnson and Emmett combine for a better functioning forward line and someone like Patrick Voss who made our forward structure function the best it has all season and that was when Jye Amiss didn't play. Also Corey Wagner has supplied great run out of defence and turned the ball over less than Brandon Walker despite his flair and obvious talent that may be better suited closer to our forward line. And where do talented forwards Sturt, Simpson and Delean fit in? It may take a bit of imagination but I think we already have the talent in our squad to go all the way to a flag. Why do we always have to go chasing talent which we rejected at the Draft table and then are willing to pay top dollar and ridiculous contracts to attract them to us. We need to be more creative with what we've got and developed like Sydney is at the moment
This is the test for JLo at the moment and he should be using someone like Will Brodie who may be tracking towards a Sandover Medal this year.

We're still a very young team. Our forward line in particular - our FF, CHF are still kids playing against grown men - they're outperforming in that regard. Our mids are getting miles under their belts - Young, Caleb and Brayshaw, but they're still kids too and Caleb and Brayshaw are undersized for the role (they make up for it with heart and effort.) Our wings are mostly kids, same with our back flanks and forward flanks. If you take Fyfe, Sonny and Captain Pearce out of the team we must be close to the youngest team going around. We're doing ok in that light but a way off the pace yet without some extra flair in the middle in particular.

Gumnut, would you throw Walker forward as a replacement for the injured Walters? He would add an element of difference there. Frederick seems to have lost the sharp edge of his pace this year, and could be better used as a marking mid forward.

I agree Gumnut, our coaching development of players seems to be no pressure to lose your place, especially if you were traded in. If you have less games, once you are out it`s hard to get back in. We talk about squad depth but this is only ever tested in case of injuries.

For what it's worth, on the smaller SCG, my guess is that Longmire would be playing Walker and Clarke as mids, where they can use their pace and long roosts to get goalside more often.

Yes Matt, it's something we could try but I don't think our coaching group are that imaginative. Brandon has a great long kick as he showed recently when kicking a goal, he can take a good contested mark and is very fast with great evasive skills. The other guy I left out was Bailey Banfield who has just about won a few games off his own boot and is very underrated. I think he should be a priority signing as I believe he is out of contract and I would hate to see him leave in similar circumstances similar to Blake Acres who we took for granted and tried paying him unders. Clubs will come for Bailey who has been one of our more reliable performers this season.

You've confused me magoos. Why does the Sydney coach get to say where we play our players?

What is the argument for him having a far better list? I've not heard that one.

That happens when you get old, we miss things. I miss winning more often.
