A friend of mine came up with an interesting change to the dissent rule. You don't have an on-field penalty for dissent. So no potentially game-deciding 50m penalty. Instead games are reviewed and incidents where players disrespect the umpire's decisions are tallied. Individuals get fines for dissent, but after enough dissents, they get a week off.
There needs to be a penalty for a team that accrues too many dissents also. Maybe a 2 point penalty? You might have some very well behaved teams near the end of the season.
