TOPIC: Jordan Clark contract extension to 2028

Clark has really lifted this year and is now in our top echelon in my book.

He’s fast, tough, skilful, reads the game well, and looks to love playing for Freo.

Apart from being a bit kinder to himself and/or the umpires, are there any area for improvement?

For mine it’s a case of keep backing yourself young man - you’re doing great.

When Freo wins a Premiership within the term of this contract, he is going to be the gobbiest player in the league and I'm here for it.

jezzaargh
he's a line breaking half-back, with speed and a roosting kick

I've been a big fan since day 1, love that he doesn't hesitate. backing yourself comes with the occasional butchery or turnover, but Clark always makes up for it

He won't be actually Morgan, he will do his job without any showboating, except maybe a big two fingers to the media box and the disgraced umpires box.

Simple Hypen, bring Chappy in and send Hughes to Peel.
Can’t knock Hughes heart & endeavour but his skills are nearly as bad as mine.

Hughes lacks awareness, which is a bit of a problem because it means he gets caught with the ball. And you can’t coach awareness.

But he is an important player on the list, albeit a known quantity.

If Chappy can get back in and fulfil his enormous promise our backline looks shit hot. And with B Cox still on the sidelines…

On Chappy, is he good at locking down an opponent when required? I like him for his creativity and rebound, but defenders need to defend.

Hughes and Chappy can at least spoil as mid-sized defenders, but Chappy obviously a much better player with ball in hand.

I would still love to find a rebounding defender who isn't a liability as a defender. Clark is at best passable as a defender (which we saw at the end of the Carlton game) and Walker seems like a liability to me. He doesn't seem to stick tackles and is a non-entity in the air. When he was left one-on-one with JHF at the end of the Port game, there was absolutely no doubt that JHF would take the mark. Like, put it down in the book stuff. If we're not going to be a high scoring team, you can't have individual defenders who teams can attack like that.

Walker also gets caught with the ball way too often, I prefer Corey Wagner

Anyone else notice the umpire with no game sense has been dropped....typical AFL hiding behind the original decision to support him now quietly kicking him to the kerb when nobodys watching

If you're the head of umpiring at the AFL, and you have a small pool of talent to draw from, and sections of the public are baying for one of the umpire's blood, do you throw that umpire out to be sacrificed to appease the masses, or protect him or her for a week or so until the heat comes off, have a quiet word about what they did wrong and give them time in the seconds to work on it?

We would expect an AFL coach to protect their players, for the benefit of that player and to send a signal to the others in the squad. Why should an umpires coach be any different?

The biggest problem I believe is that when the umpiring roster was increased to 4 umpires per game the 3rd and 4th picked are not up to senior standard and are frequently the ones jumping at shadows and either making the howler decisions or just putting the whistle away and missing obvious free kicks. The more experienced umpires are usually pretty good and you do tend to accept some of their mistakes as they generally do get it right.

Massive Jordy fan - always gives 100%. I can’t believe Geelong didn’t want him - a friend is a Cats supporter and didn’t like him at all and said we would regret drafting him. I do like to remind him periodically how wrong he was :)
