I'm sure Freo will claim that this sort of information is confidential, but it would be great to know much Freo pursued and entertained other offers, and the difference between those offers and Woodside's. As I've previously said, even putting the moral argument to the side, aligning with Woodside has negative consequences for the club, which (at the very least) would need to be reflected in the cost of the sponsorship.
Woodside has always been hard-headed about the sponsorship. Recall Woodside chief executive Don Voelte's
comments in a staff memo that the decision to sponsor the Dockers over Eagles was simply a question of sponsorship availability.
"You may ask why we are supporting the Fremantle Dockers over the West Coast Eagles," Mr Voelte starts.
"The simple answer is that a major sponsorship of Fremantle was available. A major sponsorship of West Coast was not."
So my question for Garlick and Alcock is, what other sponsorships were available? if they don't know then I they have failed in their duties.
