TOPIC: Woodside Community Goodwill Project

Woodside are continuing their sponsorship of Freo for another 2 years in spite of a lot of public backlash and very little action to improve their image or the environment.

There's already backlash from this decision with Freo's decision makers burying their heads in the sand. Ignoring climate change to help assist Woodside's public image seems so OOFTIT like, I could never get behind the cash grab at all of our expense. A poor effort from those who run the club.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The club's Facebook post had a lot of very positive comments. Weirdly positive.

The trick to sock puppeting is to post on some non-Woodside topics to make you look like an ordinary member of the community.

Three posts on the site regarding only the Woodside sponsorship could definitely be a red flag!

I'm pretty well versed on climate change and Woodside's efforts so consider my head above sand.

Take the money for two years and run. Rather have Woodside than any of the myriad of gambling businesses.

No doubt some will be strongly opposed and others strongly supportive.

I'm sure Freo will claim that this sort of information is confidential, but it would be great to know much Freo pursued and entertained other offers, and the difference between those offers and Woodside's. As I've previously said, even putting the moral argument to the side, aligning with Woodside has negative consequences for the club, which (at the very least) would need to be reflected in the cost of the sponsorship.

Woodside has always been hard-headed about the sponsorship. Recall Woodside chief executive Don Voelte's comments in a staff memo that the decision to sponsor the Dockers over Eagles was simply a question of sponsorship availability.

"You may ask why we are supporting the Fremantle Dockers over the West Coast Eagles," Mr Voelte starts.

"The simple answer is that a major sponsorship of Fremantle was available. A major sponsorship of West Coast was not."

So my question for Garlick and Alcock is, what other sponsorships were available? if they don't know then I they have failed in their duties.

Biz, I don't think there are too many people these days who ignore climate change any more, but you can't ignore reality either. In order to get anywhere near net zero, renewables will be needing backup and firming power for decades. That can only realistically come from coal or gas based power generation, and I'd much prefer gas.
Thus Woodside...

Hear me out.

What if we could harness the power from East Fremantle's 30 massive flags flapping in the wind.

30 of them! We could power the planet.

Seriously Eggy? You ok with this because you prefer Woodside to a gambling agency!!! We must be at the bottom of the barrel if they are our only choices and if that comparison is the only way we can justify the Woodside decision.

FFS, talk about Stockholm Syndrome. Yeah, gas will be needed for renewables, we all know this, but there's enough gas coming in existing fields to cover this. What Woodside is doing is drawing more than is required for decades into the future for the sake of short term shareholder profit and jobs (don't forget the pissweak number of jobs) because they've got a captured government addicted to the donations and revenue. We're all going to have to bear the costs, especially our kids, for pulling gas out of the ground that doesn't need to be pulled out. Weak as from the Dockers but not surprising.

Imagine a future where the number 30 exists but there are no Sharks supporters around to remark that 30 is also the number of premierships East Fremantle has won.

Nightmare scenario.
