One of the issues is that clubs have created such a 'high performance environment' that players get very few chances to let their hair down the way most guys in their 20s do every other weekend. So when they get the chance, they go nuts.

It's not limited to footballers. Head to the pub or a wedding with a new parent who has been given the night (and next morning) off parenting and watch them make a complete mess of themselves because they know that chance won't come along too often.
