TOPIC: Coaching decisions

I’m a bit confused by some of our coaching decisions. For example, having both Jackson and Darcy in our starting four at centre square bounce downs and starting the quarter with Switta as our CHF! There were a number of other structural decisions that seemed borderline (or desperate). I also think that Banfield would have been a better option than Henry for most of the game. The latter is a year away from being AFL ready.

Henry was in our best 5 players WTB, he did a lot of work and was the one getting the footy out of congestion most of the game. Talk about hitting the easy target.

Henry has been given more than enough chances to do something at AFL level. He spends a lot of time patting his mates on the back and showing his pretty earrings - but he ain't going anywhere in Wafl or Afl level.

He's 21 and he's played 20 games. And he was okay today.

Have a go at the experienced guys: Tabs, Darcy, Johnson, O'Meara, Brodie, bloody Aish.

I genuinely believe that Henry will be a good AFL player but he’s not ready yet. He was easily moved off the ball on a number of occasions and when he did get it he missed targets. As an outside receiver he has to be better at delivering the ball. He’s light on his feet but that’s not enough at this level.

Henry had 21 touches went at 76%.
1st for score involvements, 1st for goal assists, 6th for pressure acts, 6th for contested possessions.
In a team that was beaten to the footy, lacked pace, and scored 52 points, I reckon there’s a few others we can look at before him.

I was hoping Lyon would not be added to this list. Alas…

And yeah Aish had a stinker.

Henry, the new escaped goat?

You are right DBTS, he was one of our most efficient and hard working players. Some people seem to only remember one kick of his, and want to see him sent back to the Peel 2's for that. He is already a very handy player.

DBTS while you may be correct from a purely statistical perspective, your post doesn't address the issue re his earrings.

Oh and I'm not a racist but.......

Thanks for those stats DBTS. I happy to be corrected and it’s reassuring to see the positives. Seeing him live at the game I was aware of how often he was pushed off the ball and out muscled and that probably impacted on my negative assessment.

As for that last comment, you really don’t need to go there Timbo.

So I wonder if we'll see some accountability this week at the selection table. We're relatively injury free, there's certainly some forward depth. A deeper question I often ponder is if anyone at Freo even knows what accountability is?

Is there anyone prepared to stand up and say they are accountable for our inability to score, is it the head coach, the forward coach, the forwards, the players kicking it inside 50?

Ultimately the coach will be held accountable if he doesn't get results, but that could take years to play out, supporters want performance improvement now!
