Am I being too controversial, unfair or completely off the mark again by suggesting that some of our forwards look the goods when things are going well, but contribute very little when not.
I know that delivery, bombing it in, etc doesn't help, but when you hardly see a lead, the opposition just running the ball out under no pressure, or what looks very much like a lack of effort, it's bloody frustrating.
Our forward line and the inability to kick a competitive score has been our weakness for so long now, and it's not like any forward at Peel is banging the selection door down.

The forward line has been a problem at Freo for the best part of a decade (including the latter years of Pavs career)

I think we've tried to import talent on multiple occasions and it hasn't really worked out, we've tried playing people out of position and it hasn't really worked out, we've tried playing small forwards on key defenders and it hasn't really worked out, we've had a bomb it in high and long approach and it hasn't really worked out (it still isn't) at least this year we've got a young key forward (Amiss) and a young forward who can play a role (Treacy) who look like they could be a part of the forward line for years to come.

All we need now is someone to play the role of the Wiz, and I think we'll be right.

The I was pondering the forward line set up after yesterday’s game while trying to work out what is missing.

- We seem to have a couple of reasonable talls in Tabs (when he is fit) and Lobb, who provide targets but as with most talls they are of limited value in the wet.
- We also have some reasonable small forwards in Switkowski and Schultz, who have speed and can provide some pressure.
- Sonny is still classy but is clearly not the A grader he once was

So what are we missing? I keep thinking that we need a midsize athletic forward with some physical presence. Schultz is as close as we come to an “unsociable” player in our forward line. Fredrick and Switkowski are physical lightweights, while Lobb and Tabs provide little impact once the ball is on the ground. As a consequence Collingwood found it so easy to get the ball out of our forward line yesterday. I’m not sure if we have an answer - Treacy is close but still too inexperienced. We look good in dry weather but it’s a winter sport.

Also, and this may be clutching at straws, but are the players a reflection of their coach ... he’s a very likeable nice guy. I hope there is some mongrel somewhere in there.

I noticed from being at the game yesterday. That there was no one in the fwd line. Everyone had gotten sucked up ground into the play and then when we won the ball back we couldn't send the ball back into the fwd line as no one had thought 2 steps ahead by returning to the fwd line ahead of play.... Walker was good at this with his blistering pace, but for some reason he's been out of the side the last 2 weeks and our fwd line has been dis-functional.

I don't remember any stories of Jesus Christ telling parables in the rain or handling burlies.

And on other Godly abilities, can somebody please tell Michael Walters that if he is going to take a hanger, there needs to be a bloke's head there to jump on. Jesus Christ ascended once, apparently, on the shoulders of thin air, but I'd suggest Michael Walters in a purple jumper might need a bloke posing as a stepladder.

Crumbers need to be there to crumb. Collyer, Schultz and Switta were hardly in the forward line yesterday, and the same for Freddy and SonSon. And can we please have Sturt back in the team? I know Banfield is hard to match up on, but he's all at sea when the ball's in contest.

We are not using Freddy properly - he is a chaos footballer that can bring mayhem and confusion to defences.

Brad Hill won three premierships at Hawthorn, he was a chaos footballer, would run all over the place with no idea what he was doing, but he would run and get out on his own. But Hawthorn knew what he was doing and would occasionally/regularly kick to him so that the defences would need to try and cover him, thereby freeing up other better players, particularly forward of centre. I keep seeing Freddie get on his own and then the players not willing to kick into his space and let him work that pace (will have to turn that into rhyming iambic pentametre one day).

The other point about some of our defenders is that they instinctively look right, rather than 180 degrees. They therefore have to stop , slow down and set up to go across field to the left. So those that make space on the left don't get that instinctive run on..

Not hopeful about Saturday - but thereafter should be back in the groove.
