TOPIC: Trade Fyfe

According to Malthouse in the West. I cant get behind the paywall. Can anyone else read it?.

Actually you dont need to bother, I know what the tired bitter old man will be saying anyway. One last attempt to sabotage Freo and stay relevant.
The theory is sound: trade an older champ to one of the top four clubs so that he might be the cream on top for a potential flag attempt in return for an early pick during a rebuild. The four main candidates who are in the first category are Melbourne, Brizvegas, Swans and ..........Freo.

I say: we dont need to trade for Fyfe, we already have him.

Besides thats not the Freo way. Some Eagles supporters will never ever understand that.

I'd imagine if you broke into Malthouse's home it would resemble Kevin Spacey's residence in the movie Seven.

With photos and clippings of Nat Fyfe stuck on the walls scattered amongst biblical passages.

By playing more offence over defence is the manifestation of Original Sin to this wingnut.

It's a ridiculous suggestion, I mean who's going to pay top dollar for a banged up mid past his best...well maybe the mob down the road. 2 first round draft picks would have to be tempting.

Here you go Rhufus.(from the West )Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has backed Nathan Fyfe to return to his best and fit the team’s new vibrant game style, after a bombshell suggestion from Mick Malthouse that Fyfe should be traded at the end of the year to enhance the chances of a Fremantle premiership.

The Dockers have raced to a 7-1 record without Fyfe making a single appearance as he works to overcome a back injury.

Malthouse predicted the return of Fyfe had the potential to throw Fremantle’s balance out

“He is not a great chaser. He might be a good tackler in close but he has come off a back, he has come off shoulders,” Malthouse told ABC Radio.

“The thing I have noticed about Fremantle is their off-ball defensive stuff has been outstanding.

“I would personally have Nat Fyfe up for trade at the end of this year. If Fremantle are going to go anywhere, another couple of good kids or good picks could just be the top end and I am not sure Fyfe will get them over the line

“He is not at the top of his game. That was a couple of years ago given his injuries. I would go the trade.”

But Longmuir said Fyfe’s game had already shifted significantly to a more defensive mindset in the last two years. He said he would wait and see what the next three or four weeks brought before deciding exactly how Fyfe would be used.

“I have given it a lot of thought and I have probably decided to put it on the backburner and re-visit in about three weeks. A lot can happen in a month of footy,” he said.

“One thing I am really confident in is that he can get back to his best and perform in whatever role we decide to play him in. He has become a lot more two way in the way he operates in the last two years and his running patterns have grown to be exactly what we are after in terms of defensive patterns.

“He is renowned as a ball hunter but he has been able to add the outside balance to his game and the ability to own the corridor. I have shown highlights of him doing plenty of the things that we are after from our midfielders.

“There was a game last round of 2020 when he brought the most pressure I have seen from an AFL footballer to that game. He has got it in him and I am really confident he can come back and contribute the way we want him to.”

Tragic predicted the return of Malthouse had the potential to cause nausea and outright dislike

“He is not a great commentator. He might be a good distraction when West Coast are embarrassing themselves, but he has come off a bitter and twisted experience, he has come off relevance deprivation,” Tragic muttered to himself.

“The thing I have noticed about Mad Mick is is no one really cares what he says.

“I would personally have Mad Mick up for Nursing home admittance. If the media are going to go anywhere, another couple of good kids or good young commentators could just be the top end and I am not sure Mad Mick will get them over the line
Mad Mick should be put on the trade table by the West , according to Tragic.
“He is not at the top of his game. That was a couple of decades ago given the meaningless diatribe he has garbled in recent times. I would go the trade. Maybe even euthanasia.” *

Fyfe applies the best defensive pressure that can be applied. He doesn't let the opposition get the footy.

I feel bad for Robert Walls. He had the bitter old coot role in the media to himself for a while, and now Malthouse has taken his corner.

I was unfortunate to be listening when Mad Mick was on the tranny (don't Google that!). He pooh poohed the fact that Fyfe was a dual Brownlow medallist by saying that was only an umpire's award. He still maintains Fyfe is a selfish player who goes after the ball and leaves it for someone else to defend his opposite number. Guess what Mick, teams play zones or some sort of version of a zone and have done for years.
