Dockerlanders, once again it is time to put your football credentials on display by indicating how successful each of the eighteen AFL teams will be in the HomeNaway season. As in past seasons, just before Round 1 starts, I will scrape your carefully considered opinions from this thread so they may be analysed before the 2023 competition; those with insight will bask in Dockerland glory forever.

Now I am not asking you to pick the order of the AFL ladder at the end of Round 23; I am asking you to place the AFL clubs into four bands.
  • Which four team will hold positions one to four at the top of the ladder?
  • Which four teams will make it to the finals in positions five through to eight?
  • Which four teams will just miss out on making the finals in positions nine through to twelve?
  • And finally, which six teams will finish at the bottom of the AFL ladder?


So your predictions will look something like this...
  • Top four: Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood
  • Bottom of the top eight: Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Gold Coast
  • Just missing finals - four teams: Greater Western Sydney, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne
  • Cellar dwellers - bottom six: Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast eGurls, Western Bulldogs

My stats nerd buddy runs a line over pre-season ladder predictions from the pundits on SEN, Fox Footy, Herald Sun, Real Footy, The Advertiser, The West, 6PR and a couple of other outlets and found that, on average, they predicted Carlton to finish 2.2 spots higher than they did in 2020 and 2021, and Essendon 1.6 higher. (Obviously last year Richmond and West Coast were way down, but that's an anomaly.
No reason it won't be the same again this year.
