TOPIC: Fixtures - hoping for a surprise

So, first AFL game is away for 3rd year in a row.FFC members wait longer for a home game again (after the AFLW has last home game away)
WCE home for round one, again.
FFC get second away Derby, again.
WCE get Sunday afternoon/night game at 410pm for Derby.
All Victorian teams remain in Victoria for round one and don't travel interstate.
Fixtures released at 930am WST, hoping for a nice surprise but expecting to be out most Sunday fortnights and watching Victorian teams on most Friday and Saturday nights.
Hoping the AFL hasn't just cut and pasted last year's fixtures. Fingers crossed and hoping for a miracle. I might be dreaming though....

I feel like there are a lot of people who assume that the thing we don't get is better because the AFL are doing it to deliberately screw us.

People wanting Thursday and Friday night games at 6pm puts Tulip mania to shame.

Club making a bog deal of our first Friday night game in 6 years.

Fact is that it is a double header and we are on Fox so not really the big national coverage of a standard Friday.

Yep, I have to agree Shane. It’s as if the AFL has nothing better to do than to target Freo. On some occasions I can understand concerns about the treatment of non Victorian teams but singling out Freo is a stretch. Interestingly those Freo conspiracy theorists have never been able to explain why Freo is top of the hit list!

Not sure if I was clear. This is about supporter experience. Waiting two rounds into season to see a home game, again
Waiting until the end of year to attend a home Derby when weather can be terrible and players often out and injured - just how seasons go with injuries.
Putting off seeing friends, family or attending events on many Sunday afternoons, as attending footy you have paid for, is often the experience for both footy team members in WA.
If working very early on Mondays or driving some distance home, continual Sunday evening games can get tiresome.
It is not about about success or lack of. It is about variety in games to attend and games to view on media platforms.
It would just be nice to have a mix, for me personally. But each to their own.
Success and what leads to it is a whole other topic :-)

The AFL is giving the Victorian supporters special treatment with the Grand Final replay being the first game on a Wednesday. Then the homes games in the first round.
The AFL are scared that with two years of Vic supporters sitting in front fire watching the footy on their Covid 19 treat ...the big screen TV. Add no travelling, and economical food and drink on hand.
The hype about get to the MCG for the GF replay and be part of the biggest home and away crowd.

For Fremantle supporters that's a hopeless fixture. But, what can you do - it would help not pretending that it's got some real highlights, it doesn't.

Doubtless we’ll revert to the monotonous Sunday arvo games for the second half of the season, and you can’t please everyone, but personally one Sunday arvo, two twilight Saturdays and a Friday night to start the season’s home games is about as good as I could have hoped for.

I’ve often wondered why the AFL didn’t pursue a Friday double-header sooner given the favourable time zone here in Perth. I’m glad they are giving it a try. I thought they could have snuck the start time out a little though.
