I've always been a bit sceptical of these GPS thingoes and this doesn't do my tin foil many favours.

How long is a footy oval? Abut 150 metres?

So, 15+ km in a game.
They're saying Matt Taberner runs the equivalent of the length of the ground.
Every 60 seconds.
For the entire 100 minutes of the game.
Wrestling, pack marks, composing for set shots, anything else still has to squeeze in between.
It sounds a bit far fetched for a forward. Especially in a Fremantle side.

Anyway, whatever the precise numbers there can be no question over his work rate and if he can scale it back a little he may well have an impact deeper into games and seasons. Alternatively we can soothe Morgan's apoplexy over a forward line with two really good talls in it by having Taberner just go flat out for only 8 km in the first half then have Lobb take the mantle for the second. And have them both available for more of the season.

Cheers Mushroom, that is a fantastic little get. If you worked on 20 minute quarters, he is running from goal to goal (165m at Optus) every 51 seconds. Allowing for time on- say 30 minutes quarters in which he may still be moving, he is doing it every 77 seconds. That is machine-like elite, even more for a non-midfielder. Defenders running with him must be like "WTF"!

I had a think on this and I reckon those stats are embellished.

Firstly - Tabs would have to go the length of the ground when the teams changed ends, half the ground (there and back) for the coaches huddles. Secondly - with the 6-6-6 rules he would have to go all the way to the attacking goal square after every goal, by either team. Subtract all that plus the uncertain amount of times he goes to a bench for a drink and a sit on the bench to let his lower jaw hang down and you would be left with a much more accurate picture than Champion Data's dodgey numbers.

Maybe he runs a celebratory lap everytime someone kicks a goal... we can't see it because of the bl@@dy commercial break and by the time bounce down is ready, he's back in his position... or on the bench.
