TOPIC: The Draft

The ideal scenario is for two clubs to get into a bidding war, not to stop us using the pick on our preferred player, but to stop the other club getting the pick off us, thus letting us still get the player we want,

I think Belly and the boys will be all AI this year. They'll deploy a deep learning method of artificial intelligence having cited over 4000 data points per draft player. Then with an artificial neural network, once the first few draft picks are off the table, then that will set the wheels in motion and the artificial neural network will tell us who we need for each pick.

Let's just hope we don't wind up with 3 more backmen.

Shane, have we come up with 19 theories on the value of pick 19? I lost count at 10, coz I couldn't be bothered taking my shoes & socks off.

The 19 Draft Picks of Evelyn Hardcastle.

Yesterday, I wrote a theory on the value of pick 19 and the motion of time but I decided not to hit send.

RM theorizing about pick 19 gives us something to think about and argue about between now and the draft. I like it.
Then we can argue about how wrong Bell and his team got it until footy kicks in (so to speak) next year. How dull would life be without the wise discussions on Dockerland. Mind you I hope the Ashes keeps me happy during the warmer months..

Rightyo, thanks everyone. I think I have got the idea of pick 19 now.
So Pick 19 is just like a Bitcoin.

I'd explain the value/advantage thusly: Pick 20 is to pick 19 what pick 2 is to pick 1.

The first pick of the second round is valuable. Picks decrease in value in a rate that is not quite exponential but close to it. It's certainly not linear. Pick 1 gets you the best. Pick 19 gets you the best of the rest.

Pick 37, 55...?

Time during the trade period is dilated like in the movie Interstellar- when they were on Miller's Planet, every 1.25 seconds equated to one earth day- so here- 1.25 seconds of trade time equals 1 day of boredom for us.

During the time between the end of round one on the 24th and the start of the second round on the 25th November, this will appear like centuries to List Management teams, and they will gladly trade every pick in their kit bag to just do something.

In the meantime, we will all have expired by the end of October.

So at one stage we are all rejoicing in the fact that we have 3 picks in the top 20 to get the best possible talent including tall forward/ruck options from JVR, Jack Williams, Jye Amiss and Eric Benning. Now it appears more likely that people are pushing the names of Josh Rachele, Neil Erasmus and Johnson and trading our pick 19 further down the trade order. Whilst I do trust Belly, Walls and co I see this could leave us with an early small forward/midfielder and a tall option with our first picks and then the likelihood that we will miss out on the other local tall options as other clubs get in and grab these players due to their importance in building a strong list. Under this strategy we could even miss out on Benning if a bid came for him inside pick 30 because I don't think we have enough points in our remaining selections to match the bid. I do get the whole strategy surrounding Pick 19 however I hope we don't shoot ourselves in the foot by trying to be too smart and missing our objectives. At first I thought this was about getting the best tall forward/ruck talent. Come on Belly and Walls, please don't stuff this up.

Shane - a suggested correction, if a bit pedantic...

"Every pick gets you..." what you think is "...the best of the rest"

Benning is no chance of a top 30 bid so you can forget that.
More likely rookie selection and a easy match for us
