They say it in the article, Angus is an inside midfielder and we have that covered. He's been playing on the wing the past few years and been pretty poor at it since he doesn't have the pace or foot skills. They'd need a top 10 pick to get anywhere near Cerra's value with Angus. I'd sooner take Rivers.

Jackson for Cerra is the only viable deal they can offer us. Giving us a bunch of bit part players/picks is worthless to us. We need quality, not quantity. The steak knives in deals are 99% of the time just that. We don't need another Acres.

There's no chance Melbourne get Cerra if he walks to the pre-season draft so they have to deal with us (assuming cerra wanted to go there only) however they have no currency other than Jackson that's relevant to us.

Jackson or nothing from Melbourne, a future 1st Around pick 18 again is highly likely next year is worthless to us, we need to load up this year, Carlton (6&25) Hawks (5,21&24) or Tigers (7&15) all have much better draft capital to make a deal for Cerra.

If you had Jackson, would you trade him for Cerra? Very few people would. I don’t think Melbourne are positioning when they say he’s not on the table.

I don’t think Angus is an elite player, but to be a good team you need a number of good midfielders to run through the midfield. He’s definitely good enough to be part of a Premiership midfield even playing slightly out of position (as we’ll probably see later this month).

I’m curious what we do with Tucker. I think he’s still out of contract, and if we haven’t re-signed him by now then you’d think the writing is on the wall a little. Cerra and Tucker for Angus, Pickett and Melbourne’s second round pick.

Cerra is quality and worth a bundle but Jackson has him covered. Players like Jackson don’t grow on trees. I spent most of the Pre lim at Optus last Friday watching him. His work rate is phenomenal for big man only in his 2nd season and yet to turn 20. If we where going to offer Cerra 750k per season I’d happily pay that to LJ. We may not get him this year but maybe next.

Melbourne are going hard for Cerra, with an apparently very impressive presentation to ask him to consider them as his preferred club, given they have zero draft capital to facilitate a trade, everyone (especially the AFL media) are going to speculate on which players they are going to offer up as a trade.
I strongly doubt any of said players would be willing to come to freo after just winning a premiership unless they have ties to WA, hence the Jackson and Brayshaw links. I still think Jackson is a possibility only because Lobb is open to being traded to a vic club to follow his GF. In the short term Lobb offers as much as Jackson for a team on the verge of the ultimate success.

Exactly Gidgegary that may not even get it done. I think the only way Melbourne entertain it is if the trade guarantees they can bring Mac Andrew in this year. Highly touted ruckman swingman that is tied to the dees via NGA. With the new rules they won’t have access to him though as he likely to go in the top 10. This on top of Luke Jackson telling the Dees he wants to be traded. I can’t see that happening but you never know.
