We've gone and delisted Katie-Jayne Grieve, probably our best player in our winning run throughout 2020 and one of our few young midfielders.

She didn't get much of a go this season due to fitness but surely she still has plenty left to give when our midfield apart from Bowers is our weakest link in the chain? This seems a bizarre decision and I hope she continues to work hard and get another chance with us.

She's a wrecking ball who hunts the footy and uses it well. Missing her this season was the biggest reason for our drop off in the middle and we need her back.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

While it's sad to see such a committed player get let go, I certainly didn't have the same impression about her performances as you, Biz. She generally got a game when we had other midfield injuries and I thought she struggled to have a consistent impact.
She was certainly hard at the ball (and player) and was fun to watch, but we already have those kind of players (Turbo, Haynes). I think we need more highly skilled/playmaker midfielders (also Turbo) with good skills that can get the ball out to our runners (Cain, Miller). Hopefully, some of our younger recruits will develop in that direction.
Again, sad to see her go. Hopefully, there's a niche for her somewhere else. She clearly loves her football and could never be accussed of not giving everything.

“KJ' knows the areas that she needs to improve and is working hard on them at the moment"..

That's a bit of hard knock from a coach, whether justified or not. But her best was right up there in the competition, if the coach isn't extracting that, it may not be one way.

I rated her.

She came back to training this year very out of shape. She was playing catch up from then on and never caught up. Hard for any coach to be blamed for a player returning so very unfit.

I agree with Biz - losing her seems short sighted, but Trent knows what the plan is - I don't.

We also lost Evie Gooch - she's joining Hooker at the Darkside..

I really hope we pick her back up in the draft, they indicated that was a possibility.

She was a very good player in 2020 but the opposition have become very much fitter, stronger and smarter as we saw against teams in Melbourne, a new standard in 2021 that is rising steeply year on year.
In 2021 we missed KJ's body size in the middle, where our light bodies were getting pushed off the ball. We need her back. If they're thinking of re-listing then the club must rate her, we're not told but I prefer to put this down to fitness and commitment to training, there are players with much less game sense than KJ. Games are very tough and demanding now, requiring 4 quarters of Roly-style effort. It must be very hard for the ladies to balance work, club and family, but I hope she can pull herself up and really hope we see her in purple again.

The only thing holding her back in the season just gone was her fitness, she has everything else needed to be a star of the competition. She's young, she's as tough and aggressive as they come, she has good skills, she's a great size and she has great game sense.

The only area she struggled in was fitness last year which is understandable when you realise these aren't full time athletes and she has a regular job to work on top of her football commitments (not to mention covid didn't help anyone's fitness). Surely it's the coaches job to get her fit and able to run out a game? What else are they paid to do other than get their players ready to run out a game?

I hope KJ is still getting help with her fitness/nutrition and makes her way back on the list for next year. She's too good to just let go.
