On a slow news day the AFL journo’s are speculating on mid season draft choices. The talk is that Sandi is in excellent nick and could be picked. They noted Geelong have lacked quality in the ruck. I hate they way they can attract quality, but wouldn’t begrudge Sandi the opportunity.

Surely Port would also ask the question. They are relying on Scott Lycett for Clive's sake!

He went from West Coast to Port and got even stupider, if you can believe that. .

This is getting utterly nutty now.

First of all, Darcy was linked to Geebung until he indicated he had no wish to go there. Now it's Sandi, who retired.

Are these journos so besotted with Geebung that they have to get a Freo ruckman there to help out? When you're seriously trying to talk up Sandi to sleepy hollow, you need help.

Besides, why in god's name would Sandi want to go to that dump? The only good thing about the place is the road out.

Geelong are desperate to get a top quality ruckman as Ratugolea and Stanley are only stopgap solutions for what is probably the weakest link in what could be a Premiership side. That being the case they see firstly Darcy, a kid from Geelong who looks like being in the top 2 or 3 rucks in the comp in the next few years as long term solution and the best out of contract ruckman in the country, Sandi as the best short term 2021 solution. That basically sums up their wish list for this season.

Oh, the Victorian football media have noticed him now that he's just a bit older than Mundy?

iirc there was a photo going around recently with Meek coming up against him and I have to say, he did look in good shape. Could be part of Freos new forward line strategy, Sandi to ruck and Darcy in the goal square. I reckon that could add 10 goals a game to our side. Either through Darcy kicking them himself or the 2 unmanned forwards having a field day while sides triple team him.

It's a bit of a sad indictment of our forward line at the moment where Darcy is looking like our most dangerous tall forward. Unlike Tabs, Sean always gives a contest while Tabs, at times, pulls up short of the contest and seems reluctant to impact on any opposition players filling the space in front of him.

There's no doubt that there are heaps of people in Geelong that remember that tap to Stephen Hill coming off the bench - understandable.

I think that's a bit unfair Gumnut, Tabs is a pretty good contested mark, I think the two biggest factors are having someone else back there to help out and the quality of the ball coming in. Darcy being a bit bigger has the advantage of being able to use his body to be in the right space a bit easier than Tabs does.

I'm a huge fan of Tabs Straddo and yes he is one of the best contested marks in the comp. What has annoyed me a titch in the last few games is when opposition teams put a player in the hole in front of him and he seems to choose not to contest instead of making body contact with the player in front of him as Kennedy did to Chappie in the Derby. I'm not sure exactly why he does this but I'm certain that he would mark some of these contests if not bring the ball to ground for our small forwards to scout but to allow an uncontested mark as he does in these instances is a lost opportunity and sets him apart from the top tall forwards Cameron, Hawkins, Kennedy and even dare I say it Darling who all seem to enjoy putting body contact on opposition defenders in these case.

Gumnut, the fact that he gets a free kick against everytime he tries that tactic, whereas Kennedy gets lauded as a big tough forward for doing the same could have something to do with the way Tabs plays.

Letting them mark it uncontested is the same as giving away a free, he could at least try to spoil it.
