I'd say the same about Sturt who played out a WAFL game we were so far ahead in. Why continue to put his knee at risk if someone fell across it? It's baffling.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I watched Sturt kick a goal from 50m after he'd hurt his knee.

Anyway, our injuries are unnecessary. Chapman's was caused by a desperate attempt to spoil. Hughes by a reckless bump. Young was really sprinting flat out in a desperate attempt to make a contest.

Three important injuries by players trying too hard and not taking the safer option. Chapman could have just realised he was out of position and let his opponent mark. Hughes could have tackled or tried to stop the next handball. Young could have waited for the ball to come out.

Mundy needs to explain to these guys when to try and when not to.

Just wondering if we can get Chappy back sooner if he gets the shoulder replaced rather than reconstructed?

Never heard of Poe's law. I assumed it was something to do with not putting parmesan on fish.

Look on the bright side. Munday can play mid, ruck, forward and back. He'll just have to do all of them at the same time.

There's a difference between keeping players out there who are hurt, and keeping players out there who are injured. In the Sturt at Chapman examples it looks very much like we're keeping injured players out there, which is pretty questionable even if you're chasing a premiership, but pretty bloody maddening when they are young guys playing in a developing side (as JLo put it).

Perhaps it's not the most salient point, but if I was Chapman's parents watching on the weekend I might have been inclined to call the coaching / fitness staff and give them an earful (my wife would have correctly persuaded me otherwise).

Chappy busted his shoulder before Hughes did didn't he, so he should've been subbed off there and then.

Concussion is flavour of the month, but one could argue that not being able to find a comfortable position to sleep on that shoulder in retirement could be worse.

Apart from reading newspaper,or watching news reports,i would say this is the closest thing we get to receive any info at all about players injuries.

I think it would be more insightful if the "The Specialist" could provide the updates in future.

Dear Doctor,

Thank you for referring patient X who sustained an injury whilst playing football.
The patient will be best served by undergoing a surgical procedure.
The operation will go well.
Following successful surgery we will commence a rehabilitation program.
If the player outcome is not what you hoped for, it will not be the result of my successful surgery but will be explained by
(i) failed rehabilitation
(ii) further injury
(iii) An act of God
(iv) an unrelated episode
(v) complicated medical stuff you don't understand
Choose one (or more) option(s) above.
Following successful surgery I will review the patient and let you know how wonderfully the operation went.

Kind regards

The Surgeon
