Hypen, I think Caleb Serong is closer to Barry Cable at the same stage in his career. Even his first name is an anagram of Cable.

And when Cable was at his best the opposition were goners, an anagram for Caleb's surname.

Isn't that the most amazing coincidence?

Cletus, the good old fashioned drop punt is never gunna win you GOTY, when you have got muppets like Russell, Hudson, & Healy judging it. Why wouldn't you go for the banana from dead in front?

The goal kicking stuff is overblown and not something to worry about. We have a few bad weeks with the spotlight thrown on our goal kicking and now players get in their heads about it, making it a reality. It's best to leave be and let the players regain confidence than harp on about it.

For example, Fyfe has kicked more goals than behinds every year of his career except his first and this year with 159 goals and 125 behinds in total which is on par with the rest of the competition. Most players goal kicking efficiency sits somewhere between 45 and 65 percent with Nat's 55.6% goal efficiency comparable to noted goal kicking midfielders Mundy (146 goals @55.9%), Treloar (103 goals @53.3%), Dangerfield (300 goals @56.7%), Selwood (164 @53.7%), Kennedy (151 goals @50.5%), Parker (166 goals @59.5%), Zorko (195 goals @53.7%), Martin (277 goals @59.3%), Pendlebury (179 goals @61%), Sidebottom (168 goals @59.3%) and Boak (182 goals @57.2%).

It wasn't a problem until the media jumped on one bad game and ran with it. Nat's goal kicking efficiency before this season was 58.7% and he was capable of slotting brilliant goals from anywhere. He's a great goal kicker.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Morgan, I just read the respectful bit a while back on this thread you posted.

I'd like to think I have a thick hide. But I think it really poor to call kids out for not playing like adults I genuinely don't like it. I can ham it up with best of them but the bagging out of these kids we've onboarded is garbage. You might think my response was out of the blue but I've been waiting for the appreciation post.

Brayshaw was eighteen when we took him and threw him in the centre. He showed glimpses of what he could be almost every game. Like any kid he just couldn't sustain it for an entire match. Darcy showed he would be a star from day dot. And he's been copping it every time he doesn't play a blinder and Brayshaw has had a bit thrown at him around here and so has Cerra.

Then as a natural obvious progression- they get real good with a few extra kilos and pre seasons under the belt. Cue the "hes stepped up and I'm happy to be proven wrong" posts.

Save it. Don't do it for Young, Sturt, Valente and Liam Henry, look for the glimpses of what they will be and enjoy the ride. Then you get to say, "I told you so" . And I know you enjoy a bit of that.

Thanks for listening I will let you get back to arguing about lock downs.

Oh and Treacy is a dud.

Hodor doesn't have big footballer's hands, his are kinda normal. I had a chat with him once, nice bloke - really nice bloke - but I couldn't help noticing his normal hands. Which makes his skill at tapping, marking and hand balling quite remarkable really. But let's not forget, he was taken under Sandi's wing and the Big Fella has taught him very well indeed. Super important to our team.

Fair enough Hypen, but a thread talking about how good Darcy is is just a weird jumping off point for that argument. For what it’s worth I’ve been banging on about his good Darcy is forever. I think I (and most on here) have lauded Cerra and Brayshaw. Young is clearly a ripper.

There’s always players you’re not sure about. I think it’s ok to say that out loud. I thought Tabs would be a slightly below average tall forward and he’s a slightly above average tall forward. I’ve never been on the Meek train but he’s 23. I thought Frederick was really raw but he’s progressed more in a year than I thought he would.

But I think I understand. At some point someone is going to mention Ovaltine and I’m going to snap, but it’s really about Shane’s strawberry Quik.

Great Stats Biz!...but woul be great to see 'set shot' break downs of all those midfielders.

Maybe I am completely wrong, but I'd reckon Fyfey wouldn't stack up on that measure...

And I'd ask you, if there's a set shot to win the match...who do you want to be taking it ? Dave, or Nat? .

Irrespective of the 0.3% difference, I know who's hands I'd prefer it to be in....!!

Based on your stats, if Fyfey leaves the game with a 60% conversion efficiency (ie lifts it by 5%), he is 'better' than any of his contemporaries you list.

He could justifiably be considered 'great' by any measure. No one could have a question mark over his goal kicking if he gets to 60%, I would think.

I mean, they could not question any other feature of his game. He's magnificent!

If he kicks 100 more goals in his career from here ( ie ends on 259) , he has to have a conversion rate greater than 68% ( ie 100 goals & no more than 46 points..) in order to end on a 60 % conversion efficiency.

Well, to do that, he can't trot out what he's been trotting out.!

Fyfe has lost the plot in front of goals. No point pretending he hasn't just because he was previously much better and the criticism then was unjustified. They need to get him fixed, because it's going to be the difference between winning and losing games.

Fyfe is just lulling the other mob into a false sense of security. Watch him kick straight this weekend and take the game from them.
